question on minnows

Anyone ever compare which works better, “city shiners” or the natural shiners from the lake that you buy up there at the bait shops.

Guess I never thought of there being much of a difference. Not aware of anyplace in the metro that minnows are raised so assumed they all came from rural areas.

If there was any difference the city minnow would be in much more of a hurry to get around the minnow bucket and very rude getting there. Up north minnows are just fine and can always get there tomorrow.

It would only matter if the fish are being real picky.
And then you would want to match the species not source.
E.G. Emerald shiners work better under the above conditions on Kab.

Your question is in the LOTW fourm so I am thinking you are talking about River Shiners vs Emerald/golden type shiners? I like the river shiners on Red lake after fishing on LOTW. But the only place you can buy them is up there.

I have seen on a couple previous posts that people swear by getting their bait up there. Not sure if I believe it or not. But it kinda makes sense to me that it might make a difference.

Live fat red tails on the river = rippin lips !

But minnows up there work just fine.
