Looking at taking my dad on a fishing trip up here in December. Anyone have any good tips on resorts with great hospitality and do a good job on keeping you top of fish? Since my dad is getting up there in age, I would love to start an annual tradition on treating him to a fishing trip. He loves to ice fish and would love to find a great resort that I could start making a trip in December year after year. Thanks in advance!

For many years we took a group trip and stayed with Walleye Retreat. Nice couple who run a smaller resort but have nice cabins and work hard to keep their guest on good fishing. The use to run mid-week specials that were much cheaper than alot of other resorts around them. If you are looking for a nice claen place to stay and people who work real hard to make your trip enjoyable give then a look.

In general, the standards at LOTW and Red Lake are much lower than laces you’d bring the whole family. A bunch of guys going up north to fish and have a few beers don’t care about having a fancy fireplace with a bottle of champaign with room service.

With that said, my favorite place on LOTW is River Bend Resort. The owner Paul and his wife are really friendly and go above and beyond what you’d expect for accommodations in that area. Super friendly and it seems that a lot of the local guides prefer to hang out there.

They also have a great breakfast and some pretty good lunches and dinner.

I haven’t stayed at a lot of places but the ones that I’ve stopped into have had less than desire able customer service.

I’ll second the motion for Walleye Retreat! Pete and Teri go all out to make sure you enjoy yourself! If you can’t get in there, head for Arnesen’s Rock Harbor Lodge! DIRTBALL2
