Was able to get on the road very early Last Tuesday with destination, LOTW’s and Sportsmans Lodge. Arrived ealry enough to get out into the gap and river for a short time on 10/8. Although fish were biting, the sizes coming to our boat were mostly small. On Wednesday morning we once again headed out into light house gap, and again, for the most part, alot of smaller fish (10″ – 13″) were being taken.
Being as I was with my father who is approaching 80, the fishing locations were going to be chosen based on what I thought he’d be comfortable in. By mid morning, the winds were very light and out of the south, SE. I decided the conditions were good for a longer run and we were off to Knights.
The 17 mile run paid off. We caught a nice limit of 16″ – 19″ walleyes and a few nice Saugers to go along with them and and 7 or 8 overs and a pile of smaller ones.
We headed back in mid afternoon for me to get a better learning of the river since I had never fished it.
Thursday was the same thing, started in gap, weather looked good again, and back to Knights we went. Pretty much same results with exception we were able to get 5 Saugers that all went 16″-17″, to me a real bonus. We also managed another 10 overs with biggest being 25 1/2″.
Friday, winds had picked up alot and we started in gap. My anchor wasn’t holding very well, and we experienced alot of misses. From what I was seeing from others, once again, alot of smaller fish coming to everyones boats.
We headed into the river and was able to get a half dozen ranging from 15″ up to just over 19″. Friday was a short day for us.
All and all a good trip and winds cooperated making a comfortable trip for both my Father and I.
Below are pictures of the Walleye in Baudette.
I was very proud to be able do my part in helping for a cure
