A bunch of Wisconsin boys headed north to the Rainy River for 4 days of chasing walleyes. Lots of fun, good food, and enough fish to make for a very good four days of fishing. Lots of quality eaters and a big handful of slot fish up to 23″ kept the boys happy all week. We used a variety of presentations, including dead sticking shiners, pitching jigs with chartreuse/orange core moxies, jigging blades, and casting flicker shads. The bite wasn’t lights out, but we found fish every day, mostly in the deeper holes. We would move shallower as the evening came on, with our better fish coming just before dark. I even caught my first sturgeon. It was only 40″, but what a great fight! Water temps were falling with temps in the upper 50’s yet. A little early yet, but the weather was great and we’ll trade that any day. Now we’re already looking forward to next spring and the pre spawn!! Sunset on a good 2013 and looking forward to 2014.
