Made a last minute decission last Tuesday to start calling and see where we could get in. 1st call paid off and Arnesons Rocky point had a place for the Kid and me.
Wednesday morning it was decission time. Weather looked good and we decided to try mid lake reefs and humps 1st.
1st stop was Ricks Hump, and to be honest, if we wouldn’t have wanted to move for the next three days, I beleive we wouldn’t have had to. It was immediately fish on and within a couple hours we were already well over a 2 man limit with many big throw backs.
Being as this was just the start of the trip, we only kept in the Box what we wanted to make sure to have for dinner.
Then headed out to Archies reef, 12 mile reef, and a couple of the Arnesons reefs.
Same results, all were producing. We would fish until someone else would come by, then we’d just pull up, go for a boat ride, and repeat.
All fish we caught were on gold jigs with leeches.
Ended up coming in to clean some fish and re group.
Later that day/evening, we decided to go try some shallow water planner boards, and once again, it was game on.
At least a dozen quality fish in a couple short hours. These all came on gold spinners, single hook, with leeches.
Thursday brought some ealry morning winds (still fishable) but decided versus trying to fight boat controll on small
structures, we’d go back to the shallow water sand/gravel transitions and drift to see what happens.
Again, immediately, fish on. We were using 3/4 – 1 oz egg sinkers with bare colored hooks, and leeches. I would say the pink out produced the couple others we tried.
Winds calmed after luch and back out to the reefs to give the jigging round 2. Nothing had changed. Fish were on pretty much constentaly.
Friday, well, it was a repeat of the previous 2 days.. Jigged in the morning, and drifted in the winds in afternoon. I can honestly say it was some of the best jig fishing I’ve experienced in the recent years. There are just so many fish in those areas right now. I don’t know if it could have gotten any easier.
I know alot of people were having equal sucess with Shinners and rainbows and alot were doing well corking. Just not my thing.
Biggest fish of this outing was 26″, and a few of them that size. Guessing a couple more weeks and as the water continues to warm, the open water trolling will start producing some big fish.
    Can’t wait to get back.

Mike, great report! I am leaving for LOTW on Wednesday AM and usually go out of Arneson’s. Nice to hear the fish are on the reefs as that is what we usually focus on in a normal third week of June. Also glad to hear the sand is still producing fish as well. Any big gators on the reefs while fishing for ‘eyes?

Only caught 3 gators, and none were big. Suprised me they weren’t more hanging off eadges of reefs.
Lambertsons rock (I beleive that’s what it’s called) West of Arnesons is where alot of fish were found in the 9′ – 14′ range.
Most of our winds came from S, SE and it was a good off shore wind to drift. I would think North winds on the wind blown shoreline would even be better.
You should have no problems at all finding fish. I really want to venture more East and get out around Long point, but there was just no reason to leave the areas we were fishing.
Report when you return. I’ll be curious if it’s still that good. For your sake, I hope it is!
    Gold, gold, and more gold
