When would the best time be in the fall to hit lotw? I was up two years ago in october, when the shiners were running back to shallows? What time of year does that typically happen. I want to try to hit it right again because I remember we were catching walleyes like bluegills but dummy me forgot to write down the date!!!

I’m fairly sure it’s water temperature dependent. I think the magic temp. is around 50 degrees and this triggers the shiner run. P.S. The picture in my avatar is a Rainy River walleye from the Spring run last year.

Mid to late October. Too many variables to guarantee the majority of the fish will be in the river even at that time, but typically the later the better if you wanna concentrate on the river.

We go opening MN deer, not always on the river but always in close. Last couple years the shiner run was nill but still had good fishing.

Late October and its always a gamble. 2 years ago we had 6-8 footers in the SE corner of the lake the weekend we were up due to 30-40 mph winds and last year the bite was tough on the lake because it blew for a week straight before we got up there and the lake was chocolate milk. The one thing I can tell you is that I have never had a bad time up there

3rd or 4th week of Oct has been the best or even early weeks in Nov if you can stand the weather and find someone open for housing.

Last couple of years the shinners haven’t made their run while I was there end of Oct. @ years ago I fished the lake for 4 days and last year lake got 2 days and the river got 2 days.

I’ll see you up there come late Oct.

Did you mark a waypoint on a GPS? If so, the. The waypoints would have a time stamp.
