Greetings Fishermen!
It has been quite cold here in the northland, 20 below zero, and 40 below zero with the wind chill factor. Tonight is supposed to be the coldest night of this cold snap! Builds character, right?
Fishing has remained slow, for the most part. The ups and downs of the temperature and especially the barometric pressure, has not given us back our bite yet. From everything I have heard the bite it light, a lot of misses, and fishing has been best out deeper, between 32 and 34 feet of water. Even at that depth fishing has varied widely from house to house. Some will report catching no fish, while a house 100 feet away will report slaughtering them. On the whole though, it is in between these two extremes. You will have to work for them, generally jigging them in, and when they do bite, they are biting light. Whole minnows, shiners if you can get them, seem to be doing the best. I haven’t heard one color over another is catching better, but it doesn’t hurt to switch them up.
Hopefully we can get some stable weather and pressure patterns for a stretch longer than a few days, and we can get some great fishing back!
