For those heading up in the next few days, James had this to add in response to a question in the ice fishing forum regarding where they fished and what produced the most fish.

James or Koonce – wondering where you guys drove out from during your LOTW segment. I am guessing Adrians given how far you went out, which is where we are heading out from when we arrive Thursday. Any knowledge your willing to share on lures or depths that were best? I picked up a bunch of Slender Spoons and also have some demons for the dead stick. Anything else that was hot? I am bringing up 3 newbies and want to make sure we get on a few fish.

We went out of Adrian’s Rd. and drove all the way to the end in 32″. The bite was tough and I feel getting out as far as we could and getting away from all the traffic made a big difference for us.

So… take the road to the end, man! And if snow pack allows for it, take the truck off the main road (be very sure of the ice conditions) and get away from the crowds.

Our dead rod outfished our spoon rods by a huge margin. Glow red demon jigs (largest size) tipped with a large fathead or shiner saved our bacon.

I would like to echo being very sure of the ice conditions. I was up just a few days ago and fished the same area that James and Dave. We did some exploring via snowmobiles as well and there is ALOT of broken up ice out there to contend with. You will see it in places going up Adrian’s road.

One spot we punched holes at had broken sheets of ice. 3 of the 4 holes had 12+ inches of ice, the other hole only had 8″ at most. And this was in the area of a portable shelter, so please use caution.

Another tip that we used to our advantage was to keep a close eye on the entire water column on your electronics. We were able to get several of our fish that came in 10 feet off the bottom in 30 fow. Without electronics we would never have known. So if you see a mark or marks coming in at a certain depth above, don’t be afraid to reel up and catch those fish.
