Just wondering if anyone out there has been up to the Rainy River this October, or is planning on going. We are heading up next Monday, the 22nd, for a week. Low water, but I’ve heard there are shiners in the river & fish are being caught. Any thoughts or info are appreciated. Thanks

I was up there this spring and we had a fantastic trip; lots of big fish & good times. I’m thinking that we will be using the same presentations we used in the spring, and depths would be pretty much the same too. If anyone has anything different, let me know. We will be putting in at Vidas this fall too…….

the front really slid the fish out into the channel and deeper holes and gave them some lockjaw the first part of the week. they would turn on a bit but it wasn’t amazing but if you worked and moved around alot you’d pick them off here or there. but that all ended wed evening. we ended up boating over the next 2.5 days over 13-14 slot fish about 6 over 25. (best year we’ve had in 5 years for slot fish) tons of dinks and many 16-17’s. the 18’s were hard to come by. we fished 90% of the time those days in teh 24′ holes right off the landing. if you weren’t in 24′ of water, you weren’t catching fish. guys were doing well near clementson bay in 20-21 ‘ of water. we were surprised they nevver really slid into the 16-18’ of water they usually reside this time of year.
used alot of colors but pink and gold strobe jigs from tom’s tackle did the most damage. we got shiners, rainbows, fatheads, and frozen shiners. in the end, rainbows and frozen shiners caught the most fish.
lake fish i feel are moving through but not in big numbers.
and a surprise on the last day.

October 16, 2012 at 12:20 am #1105396Thanks for the info & the awesome pics, guys! I’m hoping for some half-[censored] decent weather next week. Even with the low flow, we’ll find fish. Last trip of the year. Hopefully we’ll have some pics for you.
October 17, 2012 at 3:49 am #1105652I also saw your pics on Clementson’s website. Looks like they did a nice job with their remodle. They were all torn up last spring when we were up there. We are staying at the Rainy River Retreat, just a mile down the road from Clementson. We never went more than 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the boat landing last spring and we had great fishing. Our biggest was 30.5″ & 11.6 lbs. I’m not planning on moving any further than that next week either. Again, thanks for sharing the info & pics. Bring it on!!!!!
