Skipped rap fishing on Pokegama last week decided to take off for Lake of the Woods to see if the bite was as god as they say it was. We spanked the fish on Friday!!! Down Rigging seemed to be the method of choice, we tried jigging and rigging on some reefs, but found that Down Rigging produced more fish and bigger fish. We were running our weights at 31 and 28 using Original Raps in 34 feet of water. The hot colors were bleeding hot olive and purple shark x rap. The majority of fish were caught on the bleeding hot olive but the bigger fish seem to hit the purple shark. We caught around 40 fish with 4 over 25″ the biggest was a 27 1/2″, not huge but a real girthy fish. All in all if you are looking to try something a little different head to Lake of the Woods for some fun down rigging action.
