Don’t forget that you can also fish the American side of Rainy River on Sunday the 15th. The Ontario side closes on Saturday, so if you fish on Sunday watch that line closely.
I would imagine that Wednesday and Thursday will be the best bite of the week if the rain comes in. If a guy doesn’t have the 30 mph winds the pitching bite will be “stupid good” .

“Spot On” Cal!! The forecast points to Wed/Thurs being my dates of choice. I’m probably getting soft.

You should be out on the river now instead of typing, I seen a guy from shore near birchdale put the smack down on some nice fish on Sunday afternoon.
Are any banks hiring in IFalls?

What forecast do you look at for up there Chris? Baudette is calling for slight chance of rain coming in later this week. Then again the weather channel was saying winds last Sunday where 10mph to.

In all honesty Cal after picking up “Sho-Time” my focus has began to shift towards the lake. We’ve got some SNOW on the ground today and I assure you the river fisherman might be needing the Frabill Snosuit today as temps struggle to push over the freezing mark. As you know the river bite has been something special. I’ve turned away close to 30 trips in the last 2 weeks. Next year with our outing I’ve put together I will probably put 14 days + into that bite. Oh….That’s my Off time between seasons.

Truly bud…….Living here has it’s advantages. Banks hiring up here? Not sure?? I think they stop loaning money awhile back.

    Hey Mike,

I just tune into the Duluth forecast that includes Ifalls. It’s been known to be a bit off at times. Still a chance of rain will likely not dampen the spirits of anglers traveling North!! Can’t say I blame them either!! Get after them boys!!

When do we get to see the video?

The “Oz” behind In Depth Outdoors hinted that the show would air prior to this bite again next season.

I can not wait a year, just think that 30″er will be 31 by then. Hay James, can we get a on the water 3 min video clip?

Just to be clear, I’m not making it up until Thurs night, so we won’t be fishing until Friday A.M….. As long as we don’t mind getting soaked, the amount of rain shouldn’t drastically effect the bite? Bright colors for sure… but do we have to worry about the flow getting stronger or anything? Not trying to hijack here…..

Flow right now is almost at a stand still, it will be much less than what we had last weekend, I would imagine those fish are no longer going to be seeking current seams they will be using the whole river because less current. If we get heavy down pours it will take about 24 hours or longer to turn the river into tougher fishing conditions, thats with a steady heavy downpour for a several hours. I think fishing will be very good this weekend rain or shine. Just bring a variety of bright colors and a variety of lead!

Forecasting weather has proven to be a tall task even for fishing guides. IF we receive a large rain on Friday night YES this would likely hurt the bite on Saturday due to run off clouding up the river. The increased flow wouldn’t scare me. With that being said anglers are being very spoiled with this bite, and a chance of rain during April on the Canadian BORDER?? CHILDS PLAY MY FRIEND. Invest Zero time thinking about the “What ifs”? Stock up on Pulse-R’s in High Vis colors!! I think you could set up a plastic stand at the landings this weekend!!

    Hey Mike!!

I’ll admit a guy gets pretty spoiled with Rainy Lake in the front yard and the Rainy River in the back!! I bet we looked like 2 kids jumping around in that MX 1825. BTW Holst gives high fives like Hrbek crossing home plate in the 87 World Series. Moment of excitement then check hands for broken bones.

Sweet. Heading up early tomorrow. Thought I would be bringing the tent along but found a last minute room at the Fall motel. Anything has to be better than sleeping on hard ground. Now to try and get some sleep tonight.

I’m using the 6’10 Shimano NRX SYR Med-Light Extra Fast. I am using Shimano C14’s and Shimano Saros reels laced up with 10/2 Powerpro at this point, but am testing 2 new lines in the coming weeks.
