Looks like a blast! One of these years I’ll make it up there.

Why not this season? Walleye fishing is open until 04/15 on the Rainy River, still gives you almost 2 full weeks to plan a trip and we haven’t had the mother load run that Rainy is so famous for….Cmon Thursday..

    Wish I had the time!

how long does the mother load run? If a guy could get up there end of next week is there still good odds of catching numbers and size?

Unless we get a huge heat wave that cause river temps to spike into the upper 40’s I think this run will be gradual, fish have a internal clock when it comes to spawning eventually leaving water temp to play the ultimate deciding factor when these fish spawn…Last time I checked a walleye will spawn anywhere from like 42-49 degrees, right now the river is hovering around 40 degrees or less, so these fish are moving from the lake into the river to spawn, not all of the walleyes but a lot of them spawn within the Rainy River or Little/Big Fork river. So to answer your question I think the fishing will be good thru the end of the season unless we have a huge wave.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens today after the front.

Today the bite was even better by leaps and bounds. More fish. More big fish. I won’t even share numbers or size of fish caught… nobody would believe me. But believe this… now is the time to make the trip if you’re on the fence.

James, just curious what brand and model of rods and reels do you like to use on these hawgs? Always use braid, too?
