Started friday morning in the bay with a few small males. Headed to the lake and had a 25.5 in the first 5 minutes. Followed that up with a mix of saugers and 17-18″ males. Made a quick pass thru the gap with no fish, then headed up river just past the church. Picked up a few more males and another slot. Total fish caught in approx. 8 hrs on the water was 25.
Saturday headed up river to Frontier – crappy weather with wind, rain. Only small saugers the first 2 hrs. Went to our 3rd spot and finally got into some decent action. Sunshine and less wind might of helped as well. Ended up with about 40 fish total, biggest 24.5. LOTS of 18-19″ males and the sturgeon were just thick – we hooked up with 10 but didn’t bother trying to land any of them. Biggest caught in that area was 65″ by a young kid – thing was bigger than him. Heard of some awesome big fish reports between Frontier and Birchdale – guess we should have kept heading up river. Lake reports from Sat. were good as well for both numbers and size.
Good luck to anyone heading up. Best bite is yet to come imo as the water temp. was still only 39.5 at Frontier. Lake temp was 38.
