With the bite being so HOT on Lake of the Woods it was decided that we best get our wife’s up to the big water and have some fun! You do have to understand that if this was a Mexico Vacation my wife would have the bags packed and would be waiting for me to get home. That would include the kids watching taken care of and all. I had to just about drag her along but she finally gave in. The plan was the usual leave early and get up to Long Point Resort to fish by daylight on Friday morning. We would fish for two days and head home on Sunday morning. We rolled into Baudette around 7:30 am and stopped for breakfast at the newly remodeled Ranch House which I believe has changed names. A must stop for anyone that is rolling into the area for the first time. We were in and out and off to Long Point resort. We unloaded some gear in our cabin and were out to the ice house and fishing by 9:00am. Vince’s wife Kathy wanted to learn how to jig walleyes this weekend and I was going to be the man for the job. She was pre-tied with a 1/4oz gold chartreuse Slender Spoon. We were setting up the girls with their Marcum’s and I showed Kathy how we used minnow heads for jigging bait. She dropped the lure down and I turned to help my wife get ready. A couple seconds later I hear “I think I have a good one!” The spoon didn’t eve hit the bottom and she reeled up a 22”! I once again cannot say enough about Custom Jigs and Spins Slender spoons. If you don’t have these in your tackle box you’re missing out on a fantastic lure. Friday stayed consistent all day with multiple little ones and big fish going back. We kept our eaters and enjoyed a great lemon pepper fish supper! Saturday with the weather moving in things slowed a bit and we down sized our spoons and did well. It did take until 3pm before things really got crazy with multiple over the slot fish coming in hand over fist till dark. All I can say is if you have ever wanted to try Lake of the Woods NOW is the time! Enjoy the pics!
