Went out of Arnesons Rocky Point resort with my dad and a couple friends. Couldn’t really get out into deeper water due to a 150 ft crack in the ice. So 19-22 ft of water was where we were restricted. They stuck us in a 4 man shack in about 21′ of water. Right when I got there I put the unit in the hole and tossed a line in the water. Right away an aggressive wally pursued my spoon and attacked it. Fishing was steady and overall a good time throughout the day. Caught lots of wallys, one pike, and a few jumbos. We never managed to get one Sauger, one of the disappointing features of fishing in shallower water. But all the wallys we caught were either perfect eaters or perfect taker-homers. So no complaining on our part. I’d say we kept fish ranging from 17 1/2 – 19 1/4. The size we were catching was unbelievable. All eaters, rarely a slot fish came through the ice. In fact the only wally that we had to throw back was a 25″. Other than that the cigars were an obvious toss back into the depth. I will say this, I’ve never fished more dangerously in my entire life. Me and my Pa ended up pulling our portable onto the edge of the crack. The ice was about 13.5-15″ on one side where as you take one step and it was 5-6″ on the other side. I put a few holes into the 6″ ice and from there on out it was a smoke show. That’s where we found 22.5′ of water. It was almost impossible at times to get 2 lines in the water. An absolutely incredible couple hours of fishing. Our group primarily fished dead sticks, but I mainly fished with a perch colored lightning spoon. Once they found out how well I was doing they switched over to some spoons. The pink holographic swedish pimple did the best. In fact anything with pink did well. Just a pink single hook outdid lots of other tackle on the deadsticks. What an experience it was to introduce spoon techniques to the guys. They started to hammer the eye’s in no time once they figured it out. A truly wonderful trip to LOTW. A full possession limit of wally’s and a an experience to last a life time. Thanks Arnesons Rocky Point Resort for the fishing and I cannot wait to head back up to the walleye capital of the world. And of course, what kind of LOTW trip would it be with out the good ol Burbot.
