Just got back from a 3 day stint with the wife at LOW. Fishing was great as usual.
Went out of Adrians road all 3 days. Took snowmobile first day (enough snow) but drove her small SUV the last 2 days for ease and comfort. Adrains is allowing NON full size vehicle traffic.
I wanted to experiment with lures this trip. Caught fish on everything I tried. Blades, Hair jigs, B Fish n Tackle jigs, Lindy Slick jig, Moon Glows, Gem n Eyes, doodle bugs, Northland spoons, Slender spoons and other various jigging spoons. You name it, they took it at one point or another. When bait was used Shiners or fattys really didnt matter too much.
I will admit that I did not expect to see fish in the depths we found them, 28′ was our target area. Typically I would have ecpected to be in 22-24′, I have to wonder what the later season bite will be like if fish are already this deep? Guess we will just have to wait and see.
I began towards the central/Southern area of Pine Island near the “Lone Pine” on day one. We were catching a lot of smaller fish but decent sized fish as well, enough to keep me in the area for the day.
I had some friends about a mile N of us day 1 and they did better on size, so for day 2 I decided to try in that direction. Sure enough the size was better on our fish with less “dinks” coming topside.
Day 3 I figured I would move about 1/2 mile further North to see if that would make a difference. Sure enough it seemed to. Tanya and I had very consistent “eater” size fish. 14-15″ sauger and 16-17″ walleyes.
Unfortunatley, we had no hogs on this trip. Lots of eaters but Tanya did catch some our best fish of the trip, a few low and mid 20″ walleyes. Infact she got a few mid 20″ fish solo while I was visiting some friends having a few beers. She made sure to rub it in with a picture txt every time.
It is a great time to be at LOW so dont hessitate to make the voyage ASAP.
