That is sad. 4.5 time over the limit, and he gets a $1,200 fine
$57 per fish over the limit, seems like a worthless fine to me. I would like to see $1,200 per fish.
How many years do you think this guy had been doing this.

If you look at how hard it is to catch someone in the first place. It’s cheaper to pay the fine than buy fish at the store. I think there’s something wrong with that picture.
IMO, if you truly want people to stop poaching don’t just slap em on the wrist.
A sliding scale would be nice, say $100 for one fish over, $250 for two, $500 for three, and on from there.
I can see missing a fish and being one over, that’s maybe an oops, as many as this guy was over imho was done with intent.

You have the answer and the solution in your grasp even as you read this! The concerned walleye fishers who fish that lake and any other water in your fine state, should first ask why from the DA who charged it, the warden should be able to say why his arrest was reduced, and finally request any and all memoranda , photos and copies of all testimony recorded, and that all info that is recorded from the booking process of the suspects I d. This “stuff” should be read and if possible determine the reasons for the side ways move by the people involved and any other people discovered along the way. Each participant must be deposed under oath wwhat his or hers participation was. Minn. ,aw may or may not allow depositions without a pending civil court case or open criminal case in the county in which this incident occurred. The object would be to elicit conflicting statements and confession to conducting themselves out of the laws involve or above and beyond their responsibility they swore to when elected or hired. If you find misconduct but the truth is not forth coming you have to petition the court to conduct a John doe investigation which you hope the hearing judge directs the DA to issue criminal charges or issue them from the bench. Are there any attorneys out there that will do this pro bono. The easier way is to organize a writing campaign to publicize the problem and propose a recall election on the judge, DA, and the head of your DNR if elected and and! How the state of Minn can do this with a straight face after entering into an agreement to abuse the walleye population by the 10s of thousands of pounds and while do so violating and killing thousands of pounds. As I remember the crimes went ounpunished. Now watch a gona to do. Your power of the vote is useless if you haven’t noticed or you folks would not be here on that problem. “the worst thing to do is for good men to do nothing” author unknown to me. Good luck next time out gentlemen.
Yea Herb, we made him move to Nebraska because he caught all the fish in Iowa.
I think Indiana used to have a $75 an inch fine too short, too many, etc.
I think some Chicago cops got busted big time up there awhile back.
One of the problems we have is that plastic can be used to pay fines. Arrest the dinks. Put them in jail until they are put in front of a judge to plead whatever. No bail on plastic, cash only, and they stay in the slam until the next court date if they can’t make bail. Charge them 100.00 per day for the jail stay too. Then be certain they have another ride home after confiscating the vehicle and the boat/motor/trailer and all tackle. 1000.00 per fish over the limit.
