Went up to Lake of the Woods this past weekend and the bite is in full swing. This is my second trip this month and the bite has been excellent since early july. I’ve been going out of Arnesens resort and been trolling with leadcore and reef runners and have been averaging 50-70 fish days with many walleyes from 25-30 inches making there way to the boat.Lake of the woods is very healthy with many year class so it’s easy to limit out and catch some true giants in the process. Pay attention to little things such as light levels, wind direction and speed. If you do and adjust accordingly through out the day the bite never slows and your success will increase. Best of luck to everyone and if you’ld like a little more info pm me or give me a shout, 651-338-4982!

HI nice Eyes, Are you using straight leadcore or are you using a section of leadcore? I am going up 3rd week of August and I have straight leadcore with 10 ft leader.

I use 3 colors of lead with a 35 foot 10/4 fireline leader!I have 10# test backing that the lead is attached to. Where the leadcore and the mono meet is where I’m attaching my board! hope this helps, let me know, I’ll post again I’m headin up this weekend.

Using boards? Is this to increase the spread in order to run more line w/o tangles, or it is just to get the lines away from the boat?

I typically run a leadcore or two in addition to down riggers, but have never felt a need for using boards….maybe I am missing something?

    Timmy,
I run boards for a number of reasons, the biggest is coverage. It lets me cover more water than flat lining, Less mess when fish are hooked as well. I’ve found on lake of the woods that even in 32 ft of water there is a spook factor, I’m fishing about 28 ft down and on sunny calmer days my board lines have always produced more fish. If it’s windy I’ll run 2 flat lines off the back With 2 boards (I fish with parties of 3) cause conditions (wind) covers my tracks. Some of it is personal preference and confidence from past results, creature of habit. Best of luck out there.
