Coming up in late August and looking for a little help getting my down riggers setup. What type of clips work best up there? I am not sure the ones I use for salmon are the way go.

    I’m in a similar situation.

I’m happy with my wire grabbers, but when i went to a #16 rubber band, even a 3# northern didn’t break the band. Cigars and sheepsheads were very sad…

On my mast boards, I was able to watch for rod action and clear the shakers quickly enuf, but haven’t had a band break yet…

I’ll be looking for suggestions also.

    powereyes and stuwest,
I am in the process of setting up a downrigger and great lakes department at Skeeter Boat Center. I have developed a business relationship with Kirk Harmes who is a writer for Great Lakes Angler and is a downrigger systems expert. He will become a regular poster here on IDO and be available to help people properly set up their downrigger sytems. I am on vacation until July 11th, but will get Kirk set up on IDO when I get back and Kirk will be happy to offer some suggestions for you to consider by mid July.

Hope you have a fun 4th of July!
