The last time I was in Hastings there was a real nice bait store on the easr side of Hwy61 a couple of blocks before the bridge
April 9, 2011 at 5:51 pm #955510i believe there still open but it seems that the guy only opens when he wants to there has been numerous times i have stopped and he isnt open. now i dont even stop anymore.
April 9, 2011 at 6:12 pm #955517Sigh… Yeah that’s the impression I’ve gotten the last couple years of that place….
April 9, 2011 at 6:19 pm #955520why dont you go to prescott gas station they have minnows it not that much further from hastings
April 9, 2011 at 6:38 pm #955522Stopped there this morning on my way down to Pool 3. $4.25 for a questionable scoop of fatheads and $3.69 for a dozen small crawlers.
Lesson learned I guess.

April 10, 2011 at 1:39 pm #955634That guy does like his mionnows I guess….Last time I was in there it was almost $5 for a ? scoop of minnows. I told him that will be the last time I buy anything from him! And don’t even start people with the “Do you know how hard it is to run a bait shop? ” That’s bull! Not any harder doing that as it is in my own job!
April 10, 2011 at 2:04 pm #955646I will never step foot in that ****hole ever again!!! Sorry, had to vent
April 10, 2011 at 9:56 pm #955719Well I’m not sure Gander is the lesser of all evils, but. It’s probably the most convenient…. Cottage Grove is significantly out of my way, but a decent option for most. Thanks for the input.
April 11, 2011 at 12:13 pm #955857I stopped in the shop in Hastings last week and b!tched about the price of fatheads and she said “Bait doesn’t pay the bills!” that sucked. Whenever possible, I go to Prescott. If you bring Brian K with you, they will let him pick out all females for you!

The bait shop in Newport is nice.
Where is it? What is it called?
April 11, 2011 at 1:04 pm #955880Backwoods Archery and Sports. They have an archery range, a few guns and a fair amount of river specific tackle along with all kinds of bait. Located in the one and I believe only strip mall in Newport. Right next to Super America on the east site of 61. This is their second building in Newport. Nice people there.
April 11, 2011 at 1:47 pm #955907That bait store in Hastings, also stopped accepting credit cards.. I can see imposing a minimum, but they stopped accepting them completely. For our convenience they did add an atm with a $2.50 fee…

Yeah, the bait shop in Hastings seems more concerned with selling skate boards than with selling bait.
The last time I was in there will be the last time I ever go in there. The girl “working” was too busy texting on her cell phone and doing who knows what to be of any help. Judging by the way the girl was acting, they’re selling something more than bait to keep that place in business.

X2
wilson1984Posts: 302April 11, 2011 at 3:46 pm #955962No, Prescott doesn’t let you get the bait yourself any more, but it is still 100 times better then the bait store in Hastings!
April 11, 2011 at 4:15 pm #955975Which Gander are we talking about? Pretty sure Lakeville is still open, unless something really changed, last time I was at Woodbury it was pretty pathetic, I could see that one going away.
I stay south of the river until Hastings, so CG isn’t really on my way, I have to do some checking to see if it’s a decent option to go the roundabout way to p3.

With the store remodel they will not have minnows any more. Just crawlers, wax worms and leeches I think.
April 11, 2011 at 9:54 pm #956101i would agree the bait shop in hastings is tarible and how they are still in buissness is amazing
Jake_APosts: 569April 12, 2011 at 1:27 pm #956324Sure glad I read this post. Always wanted to stop, but they are always closed. I think the owner should pull the head out of his ……

They did until some Yahoos going to South Dakota wrecked it for everybody!
fishnvromanPosts: 8April 12, 2011 at 6:20 pm #956428hey, i live in hastings and that place is a total joke!!!!!
like others have said they open when they feel like opening and their prices for the quantinty is rediculous!!!! prescott is the next closest place to go for minnows and you can scoop yourself most the time.. and much cheaper.fishnvromanPosts: 8April 12, 2011 at 6:22 pm #956430it depends on whos working and what day it is i guess, every time i go in i just start scooping my own and they havent said anything to me yet. done it about 8 times now this spring.
