Iowa DNR dumped chemicals in Lake Sugema to kill the shad population last fall and I am wonder how bad it hurt the game fish population. Any reports out there?
Were the shad over populated and pushing out the silver carp population? Seriously, they kill off baitfish? They could have raised a lot of money selling netted shad frozen and shipped up here.
That isn’t too bad of an idea Pug, befor they redid Mcbride lake the winter kill would be blown over to one side and there would be 1000’s of pounds of dead shad every spring, by the 55 gallon drum full.
Stuart, the only thing I heard or read was that the DNR thought the late fall application went well. Haven’t heard about a spring application. I did read though that they blamed the introduction of shad on the bass fishermen trying to feed the bass to grow bigger/faster. Since they had no proof or never caught anyone in the act, I’d argue with them since I doubt they even considered introduction via fish eating birds like pelicans, herons, and cormorants. But that’s just my opinion.
