AND I KNOW I AM GOING TO PAY FOR THIS POST..
You are dead meat.
we discussed this at the bait shop, last fall. and you know that I am dead meat.. but its the exact thing that we discussed..
I don’t think you are teaching people much of anything when you give them exact details and locations.
I just can’t keep my yap shut on your post Rat…
I can’t say you are TOTALLY wrong, because it’s your perspective and from your point of view it’s the total truth.
Although I would like to point out that the internet was not created yet when you were learning to fish. <zinger!>
While I don’t believe it’s good to post a “spot” on the net, there is a TON…100’s of thousands of words that staff and members have written about how to fish, what to look for and how to use the tackle to best fish different situations.
Making friends and becoming a part of the “community” we call IDO is not that darn hard…unless a person wants to make it hard.
It wasn’t very long after I signed up, I was out fishing with MikeW, Stillakid, Alvinmack and a little later on Muskie fishing with SteveO . I’ll never forget them for taking the time to take a little lake fisherman like myself out for some good fishing a little learning and good times.
There is still a ton of info being exchanged…in fact, just today I had three pm exchanges.
I would suggest to anyone that is looking for info that it’s here, the community needs to just get to know you and know that you’ll be around for a while before giving up any secrets.
One last suggestion to anyone that comes on line on any web site. The friendly you are to others will be returned with more friendliness.
Just for Rat…Sharing your knowledge~P4 Style<<
Bug in the system so the photo’s don’t show, but the meat is there and more meat by following the links in the post and threads.

There was this guy that bass fished alot and actually took me on a half dozen excursions. He used to post alot, but I think between work and having a couple kids in sports he doesn’t have much time to get on the computer. Oh he likes to pheasant hunt alot too, but I’m not sure he does that anymore because I never got a call this fall.
That was all before you placed “Mr Walleye” in you sig…..
I am here every day, just don’t post as much during the winter, never have. If you want to know how the Blaine’s hockey program is doing, just ask

I post some.. but I honestly believe that guys would post more if guys returned to their helpful fishing self.
AND I KNOW I AM GOING TO PAY FOR THIS POST..
but years ago, more guys posted exactly how they caught fish.. to the point where others ripped into them, and caused them to slow down their postings..
I am of the addage that there is more then one spot on the river.. in fact, if this spot is taken, there is another out there.. either on this pool or the next… So if you “show a spot” in your photo,, SO WHAT.. because , if it helps others become better fishermen, THAT”S THE POINT OF THE SITE..
it gives them an idea of where to go..
but let me say.. three years ago, I fished with my nephew well up the river.. and I called three different spots, all which contained fish.. and guess what, all those spots could be found on either Lay Lake or Logan Martin in Alabama..
I had never been to any of those spots on the river previously..
some one just “moved” the spot..
I just don’t get it.. we are willing , to help a guy with his car, his dog, his beer, his roof, his bbq, and a ton of other problems..including his transmission.. on his truck to boot,
but when it comes down to WHAT THE SITE IS MEANT FOR, Oh no, that’s too much info..
I didn’t grow up here.. nor did I have any family here.. every thing I learned, I learned by gas and guts and time on the water..
any sort of hint or help, would have been greatly appreciated.. but little came..
in time , I became a good fisherman.. especially finding my own fish..
but it would have been a ton easier had this one guy said this or another guy saying that, or one guy showing me one or two spots to build on..
it just didn’t happen until “after” and even then.. unless you are part of the elite, YOU DON’T get the info..
all I am saying is that fishing help, is the purpose of the site.. lets go back to that purpose..
I will now be ignored or ridiculed by various posters here for the rest of the year..
for that I will take the punishment of telling the truth.
BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST POSTS I’VE EVER READ ON THIS WEBSITE!!!
not just on this forum, but all of the hunting forums i frequent, info is very hard to come by sometimes, and it is because people are afraid to lose their opportunities in the field, by giving them to others. even if that opportunity could make someones summer for them.
hey, at least its almost opener…

The “truth” is if you can’t find the info you desire here on IDO or find a way to integrate with some of the locals in your area that frequent IDO… all you have to do is find a mirror to get a glimpse of the true source of the problem.
My experience has been that people here as a whole are a quick study of the personality and character members portray here in the forums as they communicate. Come off as helpful and kind and people will give you the shirt off their backs. Come off arrogant and even abusive at times… people won’t be rude or spiteful but you’ll find yourself longing for quality interaction and on the short end of the stick when it comes to the exchange of info.
Old Rat,
I understand exactly where you are coming from but I have to politely disagree with you. This site truly does have a wealth of knowledge buried in the reports and the posts if you tear them apart and take the data from them. The part of this site you have to understand is that it is only one piece of the puzzle and it has its limitations. If one of the good sticks posted exact locations, baits, colors and every other fact then that particular spot would be overrun for days to come. This site lets you become a name and a face to a lot of people you never would meet if it wasn’t for being here. That is a foot in the door and when you see one of them at the landing or the bait shop they almost know you and will be much more willing to share. I found “fish the River” about 10 years ago and I was a struggling walleye guy with a snot nosed kid who wanted to catch walleye more than he wanted to breathe. I made silly posts and asked a ton of questions and got some decent information and still continued to struggle with learning the river. There was a guide on the river back then—H2O he was called—and I saw him as I pulled into Evert’s one morning. I screwed up all my courage and wandered over—introduced myself from the website—and started a conversation. The information he gave me was priceless—what he had done the day before–colors–baits–location and his thoughts for what should be the bite today. We didn’t go out and kill them that day but we had one of our better days and the start of a new friendship. That is part of what this site is about. When I am on the river I am always amazed and honored that people come up to me and know my name because of this site. I may not post a lot but if my day is going better than theirs I will spill my guts to try and help them. Heck, I have even been known to throw a few baits in their boat if they don’t have the color that is hot. Will I post the same information on the ‘net for everyone to see—probably not. This site opens the door to a whole new world of people and experiences and it is your choice if you walk through that door and what you do when you get there. By the way–my name is Rich and if you are up on Pool 4 and you see me on the water please come over and say Hi. As far as you being punished—I highly doubt it—we have all had days when we have thought what you wrote I guess. Take care and good fishing!!!!
I guess I can be arrogantly abusive at times, but I know I’m still loved. My question to stump the experts is–
How do I pour urine out of this boot? I was told the directions were on the bottom but I sure don’t see them.
Life can be so mean and confusing sometimes.
I strongly disagree old rat (as I know you expected)!
If it wasn’t for the info shared here I would not be on fish near as often as I am. From Pool 2 to Pool 999 they all fish the same. Areas being fished for every species are explained very well along with the tactics being used. Even with the Bass community as tight lipped as they can be, the info provided has put some nice Smallies and Large Mouth in my boat the past few years. A guy just needs to take the info you can find, pull up maps on the net (which I have posted as my tools of the trade many times), and do a little home work.
I was never one to sit in school and take a test looking over some ones shoulder hoping for answers but, I listened to the teacher. Why should this be any different?
Along with what has been said about personalities, from my post I’m sure everyone knows there are not to many serious bones in my body Not hard to tell from my writing!!! There are a lot of guys I’m sure that wouldn’t give a nickel to fish with me because of this. It would just be a long day for some. Others write on a serious side most the time, isn’t hard to tell who they like spending there time with in the boat either.
I like to keep company with people that are always positive and have no problems shrugging off a bad day or a bad dealing in life. We all have such days but some are just better at moving on than others. My belief is negativity leads to depression and why sit around in the “woe is me” state of mind
With that said, thanks to everyone that has shared information, fishing or otherwise. It has all been read by many, many people and put to good use. Keep up the good work IDO family

Why don’t they ever go in pairs?
Now that is a good question. Could it be the same reason as to why most husbands expire before there wives
I have answer for BH’s lost lure question…at least in my case.
Damn scaly fish stole it.

James.. When this site was “fish the river” and I believe River Smallies, which I may be wrong about, there were a ton of guys who were more then willing to show their spots..
even after it became IDO, guys posted photos.. and then guys started ripping guys, OH your photo shows TOO MUCH.. or what ever..
Or your writing is arrogant.. as some believe my writing is..
Yet, if you spent any, and I mean ANY amount of Time with me, such as BK did , when I visited the bait shop last fall, or if you ask Cade , or Randy.. you would find that, I am extremely helpful, always polite, encouraging, and engaging. that I try to build some one up, instead of putting some one down..
and with the exception of just a little kidding, I NEVER CUT ANY ONE DOWN.. not as a joke, or in serious situation..
however, I come across “stiff and probably arrogant” in my writing.. Its a writing skill, that you have to have to survive in college.. that you have to write with “knowledge” ..
but it hardly shows the man I am.. and I would bet, that given the chance, if you spent any amount of time , in a boat with me, that you would see me, and my writing, in a whole different view.. and “hear” my words in a different light..
and you would find that I would try to be the “Christian” Man that I am.. but not be judgemental. that I have a deep work ethic. especially in the boat.. and that I would give you anything in my tackle box.. or the shirt off my back..
so you just can’t judge the man, by the way he writes..
because I am a much deeper man then my writing skills show..
and I want you to know that I saying this with the highest respect.. that this site , itsself , gets my highest respect.. and I truly want to like and be liked by EVERY ONE HERE..
because none of us, is who we write or how it comes off on the internet.. I would bet that the two or three guys , who disagree with me the most.. may, at least understand me, and maybe genuinely like me as a person, a guy, a fisherman as opposed to the way I present my self in script..
and I would honestly like to go and do that with those guys..
in turn I wish YOU ALL WELL. and this is my final comment on this particular thread..

I think it was I that was ripping on you more then James, OLD DEAD MEAT.
It’s real hard for me to sit back and listen to “people not sharing” when 10 years ago, if you would have told me I would be a guide and a catfishing guide, I would have laughed my butt off. Actually I still do that from time to time.
How did this happen? It’s all because of the fantastic members of Ido.
I reserve the right to post more on this topic.

OK, i’ll go with that
Rat,
Please do not take this as a shot to you, as it is not meant to be. I can certainly understand your viewpoint.
My own personal experience with IDO has been nothing but positive. I tend to use the reports not as someone giving me a location to go try, but providing me with more information to find my own spots. I love to read the reports from anyone fishing the river, regardless of pools, because this gives me more information for me to use on the pool I fish.
I have read some fantastic reports from pool 2 especially that allowed me to fine tune my start point and catch more fish. IMHO, this site “teaches a man to fish”, but does not give anyone a fish.
I would like to say I have met a bunch of dinks here, but that would be a flat out lie. From the great guys at the sturgeon excursion, to guys I have run into when leaving everts at 2 AM from catfishing. They all have been more than happy to help me out, and throw out words of encouragement. I have been offered cold beers, a place to crash, and more than enough encoragement.
I have shared boats with guys that I never laid eyes on until the day we fished, and more than one guy who I would love to share a boat with.
As with most things in life, I feel like you get out of IDO what you put in.
I just received this by PM a couple days ago. AMAZING how people’s experience can vary so wildly. But then I offered a reason for that.
Quality of website
From: *************
Well, after a good 3 weeks of scanning throw your website I have been very pleased.
Maybe ‘other sites’ may have a bit more traffic but I have really found that the quality of the information offered by your staff is second to none.
There are many more how to’s, better written articles and in general, quality information.
I really mean this James.
Very pleased to be here and simply love the site.
here’s my view, I don’t want the “spot” I really like the tools used. Tackle, rods, reels, line, and new equipment for the boat like electronics, batteries, and trolling motors. All of these things combine to make my fishing experience all that much more enjoyable. I work my own business for 60 plus hours a week. If a fishing trip comes along, I know there is a network of individuals I can lean on to get me started in the right direction. I use the information in reports, and try to repeat them on the body of water I’m fishing. By the way, looking to change out the boat stereo, any one have any input for one of the systems? Need a I-pod input and a pretty decent 4 speaker system, not top of the line, but while out on the river having some fun, I like a nice sounding system.

Holler at Jon Jordan here on the site. He’s shared some great info about his custom stereo install in his Ranger that might be of help to you.

Old Rat… just the name scares the living $&!# out of me
All kidding aside, and believe me, that is hard for me.
I see irorny in just about everything I see and here.
My problem is I take a lot of jabs at people, and some may be more sensitive to my views than I am.
Warped sense of humor maybe, but really who knows.
I guess the point I am trying to make is that, when people read what you or anyone else posts on here, it can be viewed from an entireley different perspective than what the message was meant to be.
Don’t be so hard on your self.
I personally enjoy reding your posts
PS….FYI.. don’t bring up politics or Unions…
Something you have to keep in mind.. 10-15 years ago… during Fish the River… you had maybe 10-50 guys viewing the reports, spots, suggestions, etc. All well and good. During this time… it was SAFE to give up spots, specific techniques on spots, etc. Today… you have an easy 10,000 members and guests viewing the site all looking for a leg-up on fishing. Back then… it was people viewing the site on their home computers when they were off work and hom. Now? They have iphones, androids, blackberries all acting the same as a home computer (from back then) with on-the-spot info even while out fishing as well as those people taking notes, searching info from the search bar, etc. It is a completely different game from what it was 10-15 years ago. The impact is way different. Please keep that in mind. those that used to share so much info and no longer do are doing the community, the resources and the fish a benefit from not sharing so much info.
