Everybody has had a sock disappear in the dryer.

We have all lost that favorite lure in the boat someplace.

Who hasn’t woken up the next morning wondering where that 50 bucks went.

Here is the greatest mystery of all which I hope the IDO members can shed light on…………………………………………………………………………………………….”where have all the members gone who posted on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis? Those of us who have been around have seen some very prolific posters come and go. We also have saw occasional guys come and go. Did the boss catch them? Did they go over to the dark side (become golfers)? Did they go to the hunting side and never come back? Maybe they are just lurking? I’m sure some switched names, some maybe got divorced or something major happened. Maybe they moved?”

Lets not use real names if you know them. But if you know what happened to some of these guys it might be nice to know. If you switched names, let us know.

I have noticed this on the catfish forum. I just assume that they all attained enlightenment and became one with the universe.

Maybe they got a real life

I have a question, where the heck does all my gravel go every year? Does someone come over in the middle of the night and scoop it out of my driveway?

Can’t tell you for sure but I think it somehow ends up on my lawn. At least there is a new pile every spring when the snow melts. (Feel free to come and get it soon!)

There was this guy that bass fished alot and actually took me on a half dozen excursions. He used to post alot, but I think between work and having a couple kids in sports he doesn’t have much time to get on the computer. Oh he likes to pheasant hunt alot too, but I’m not sure he does that anymore because I never got a call this fall.

every forum is like that, you get members that come and go. either because they can’t post anymore, or they find other sites that they enjoy more, etc etc.

or they get married, and that jar gets set up on the shelf…

We’re still here, but have grown tired of the “Which reel?” and “What battery?” posts. It would be nice if the search feature got used a bit more on this site, perhaps move it to the front page???

If it was only all fishing 24/7, you probably would see twice the members leaving. This is more than a fishing site, it is a community.

I am still looking for a better site to annoy people on, then I’ll leave.

What classifies as better? Just so we can help you search.

I’ve suggested a number of them to you Pug. Do I need to be a little more direct?

Some of the questions over time get repetitive…but that’s because there’s always new people coming to the site.

I hope the new folks don’t ever get pushed to using the search engines (right off the bat), it’s how we get to know them.

Heck, if Pug wouldn’t have asked “where’s the ANY key on his keyboard” he would still be stuck in the search engine.

There’s a reason the general section is busier than all of the other sections.

#1 is probably because most of us are better at BSing than anything else. We’d never have a shot at hosting a fishing show or becoming KVD, but we’re Hall of Fame in the BS category.

Secondly, if we all talked about fishing all the time while we’re stuck at work, we’d probably go batsh*t crazy because we can’t fish.

    Finally . . .
It keeps BK occupied and lets his FW live a happy, quiet life without distraction.

What would you suggest for a rod & reel combo for a first time muskie fisherman?

If you have never muskie fished before I would go with a st croix triumph 7′ MH or 7’6″ H rod muskie rod. With an Abu Garcia 6300. This Is a fairly cheap set up for muskies and it will help you get into the sport as well as get a feel for some bigger gear. From there the choices of rod and reel are pretty much endless and depends on what baits you will throw with it. Your not gonna throw a pounder with a lighter bucktail rod.

There are new members joining all the time who might have missed certain topics. Just because you might be tired of them doesn’t mean everyone else has had the opportunity to read suggestions on such topics.
Not only that, but if they do tire you why open them. Normally from the title a person can almost tell what the question will be.

As for the search tool….it is human nature to let others do the home work. When it comes to these types of questions there are plenty here that don’t mind offering the help no matter how many times it takes.

So I’m not buying that answer

That’s OK Bret, it’s not for sale. The orginal question was why do some people that used to post all the time seem to have disappeared, or have stopped posting?

When I first got involved with this site I shared information alot, now I don’t so much care to throw my hat into the Ford\Chevy, Shimano\Diawa, Loomis\Croix debates.

I usually don’t open threads where the title doesn’t interest me. I am not saying you can’t, help others to your heart’s content if you want to.

I realize this site is for sharing information, certainly not trying to fight the system, and have had my hand slapped on here plenty of times for trying.

I think that a lot of people realize that there posts are not just read by the registered members, but lurkers. Sharing information with other fishing buddies is fine, but when you are giving out good info to lurkers and then find your spot(s) crammed with people it might make you leery to post. I helped out a guy on another site about a city spot he asked for some info on. I gave it to him and watched as he posted repeatedly how well he did there, exact lake, times, spot, lures, depth. That really curbed how much I info I am willing to put into a post.

It’s probably because they don’t understand our high-brow sense of humor.

I think a lot of them were Vikings fans.

All you Packers fans bashed them so much after winning the Super Bowl, they may be afaid to show their names.

I had to change mine…I hav’nt been the same since that fateful day.

I used to post more when I first signed on. I also thought I knew more then…now I realize I have a lot to learn. I must be just really lucky. So, I tend to listen more and provide input less. I met someone recently that I had a great discussion with that urged me to be “impeccable with my words”. I’m working on that. But, when the beers get flowin’, so does diarrhea of the mouth (maybe some of you can relate). Life’s a journey…

You are worried about using impeccable words and there is a post titled…. “Best Ball Masters” at this time!!!

Impeccable can be humorous, too. Sounds like an AC/DC music video.

The days of having a life have left me for a while so I hardly have anything to share anymore on here.
Also after being laid-off and having to sell my boat and most of my gear I can’t really talk about fishing much anymore.
The stuff I see and deal with for class and work many people don’t want to hear and I really hope people never have to deal with.
Now I just stop in here to see what everybody else is catching and what people are arguing about

I post some.. but I honestly believe that guys would post more if guys returned to their helpful fishing self.

AND I KNOW I AM GOING TO PAY FOR THIS POST..

but years ago, more guys posted exactly how they caught fish.. to the point where others ripped into them, and caused them to slow down their postings..

I am of the addage that there is more then one spot on the river.. in fact, if this spot is taken, there is another out there.. either on this pool or the next… So if you “show a spot” in your photo,, SO WHAT.. because , if it helps others become better fishermen, THAT”S THE POINT OF THE SITE..

it gives them an idea of where to go..

but let me say.. three years ago, I fished with my nephew well up the river.. and I called three different spots, all which contained fish.. and guess what, all those spots could be found on either Lay Lake or Logan Martin in Alabama..

I had never been to any of those spots on the river previously..

some one just “moved” the spot..

I just don’t get it.. we are willing , to help a guy with his car, his dog, his beer, his roof, his bbq, and a ton of other problems..including his transmission.. on his truck to boot,

but when it comes down to WHAT THE SITE IS MEANT FOR, Oh no, that’s too much info..

I didn’t grow up here.. nor did I have any family here.. every thing I learned, I learned by gas and guts and time on the water..

any sort of hint or help, would have been greatly appreciated.. but little came..

in time , I became a good fisherman.. especially finding my own fish..

but it would have been a ton easier had this one guy said this or another guy saying that, or one guy showing me one or two spots to build on..

it just didn’t happen until “after” and even then.. unless you are part of the elite, YOU DON’T get the info..

all I am saying is that fishing help, is the purpose of the site.. lets go back to that purpose..

I will now be ignored or ridiculed by various posters here for the rest of the year..

for that I will take the punishment of telling the truth.
