BEST way for me…I never leave home on trip without:

1 bottle hydrogen peroxide (brown bottle)
    1 box baking soda
    dog shampoo–couple big squirts

Mix all together in a small pail. It will be like an icky soapy paste. Wipe over the dog and really scrub it in. Wash off with water. Repeat as needed. One application usually does the trick.

    1 liter white vinigar
    1/4 cup backing soda
    1 tsp dish detergent

this has worked very well for me in the past, i have also used tomato juice and every time the dogs get wet for well over a month they will smell and thats after several washings usually this recipe after one or two washings, even if the dogs get wet it will get rid of the smell. good luck

If you’re not into chemistry, you can buy skunk out products at any pet store. We’ve used these with success in the past.

    1 bottle hydrogen peroxide
    1/4 cup baking soda
    2 TBL dawn dish soap

do not add water to the mix. The baking soda helps get rid of the smell, the dawn dish soap cuts the oil from the skunk. you might have to do this a few time cuz of the dog sweat pours. DO NOT USE THE SKUNK OFF ITS SMELL WORST THEN THE SKUNK. good luck i have to labs and have been in your shoes a time or two

Dogs don’t sweat. That’s why they pant.

Hmmmm, I see this thread turning into a “Breast Pump For Sale” type of thread pretty quick.

I deal with this all the time with ADC trapping. Recipes above work good. However, you will need to wash your pooch a couple times. Don’t use the same towel to wipe it down afterwards. Skunk essence is an oil/fatty secretion and very difficult to lift from hair.

Finally, keep a good eye on your dogs skin. Anything that will cut through oil or fat will dry out the skin and may irritate pretty good. A final wash with a good moisturizing shampoo will help the skin from becoming irritated.
I envy your dog. When I get sprayed, my wife won’t bathe me or let me into the house……

Dogs do not produce sweat at all. However, they do have sweat glands, called apocrine glands, associated with every hair follicle on their body. The exact function of these glands is not known, but the may produce pheromones or chemical signals for communication with other dogs. It is believed that these sweat secretions produce an individual odor signal that is recognizable by other dogs.
