Android Heck- SD Card Corrupt

I have tried everything to recover the data, but no dice. Who knows, maybe the card is just fried. I won’t know until I reformat it, but for now I have to make a list of Apps affected. Unfortunately, the Navionics is this biggest and I’ll have to re-download all that.

Anyone else had a SD card issue yet? I did before, but was able to recover.

I have read on the internet that the factory provided cards are not great, so I might upgrade that eventually to a better one. Good thing I only lost a couple pictures of the deer mouse, otherwise Lookout backs stuff up weekly.

Word to the wise, be careful. I should be able to recover all my paid apps, but I’ll let you know. I am going to look for a SD card backup app when I am done too.

Sorry pug I’m not much help on this. However I’m not going to e shocked if your SD card is just fried. I have burned through 3 factory ones, and the 3rd time I didn’t even go back to sprint to have them replace it I just broke down upgraded and bought a new one. I bought a new one for my wifes phone before I even gave it to her as well just because they tend to be that bad. I know a few people that also have burned them up. of course it only seems to happen to those who root their phone and mess with their SD card more than a “standard” user.

Good luck and lets home a re-format will do it.

You are right. It is fried. I should have assumed that since nothing would mount it.

So what should I look for in a new card?

Here’s the background of what happened to mine. Took a couple pictures and tried looking at them in the gallery. The low res image came up like it normally does before the full res one renders. It would sit there and freeze to where I couldn’t swipe or go anywhere. I mounted the card to the PC through the phone and it showed the files, however when I tried copying it would show the error message saying parameters are missing. Eventually it wouldn’t even mount.

Pain in the butt. Considering how much data can be stored on those little things, I am not too shocked the corrupt easily. And no, I never rooted because I was too chicken.

Pug you are killing me. Never rooted? come on if you know any basics about computers hacking really isn’t anything to be scared of, and it only gives you more options. Seriously do it. Just dont blame me for the new addiction.

As far as wat to look for in a SD card. Just don’t buy cheap. sorry that’s all the advice I was given too. I’m not saying buy the most expensive SD card in the size you want, I am using mid range. I have a guy who I trust with all my computer questions and that is what he told me.

The Cards they ship with the phones are like buying $10 rod and expecting to get the feel and action you would out of a St.Croix ( or whatever brand you prefer) yeah it’ll get the job done, but most times it’ll be dumb luck more than anything.

Wait! Pug aren’t you a programmer?

Pug, lemme know what you find for SD cards. I’ve been meaning to replace ours with something a little bigger and better.

    What is an SD Card?

HEY! I just found out I can tether my Android type phone to my Mac desktop!

    Will do birthday boy.

Brian, I got a Mac laptop from the new job. Dang it is hard to get used to, even though I worked with Macs in the past. The hardest thing to get used to is the shortcuts.

What do you mean by tethering? You aren’t using your phone internet connection, are you? You got that PDA app?

Actually now that I have this Mac at my disposal, I may root just so I can tether the Mac in remote locations.

    I’m using EasyTether.

I tried that PDA app and it worked well for my laptop pc, but once I switch my phone to a HTC G2 and a desktop Mac I had too much trouble.
I did a search on Friday and in less than an hour I was online. Not the fasted connection I’ve ever had but without TV a decent internet connection was better than none.

Who need internet at home when you have 4G on your phone. I don’t even use my home connection any more. Comcast hates me because I keep dropping a service, and Sprint hates me because I keep using more service. ah well what do you do?

I checked my SD card and I’m running with a Sandisk. My buddy agrees although he also says Samsung are “usually” good.

doubt it is the same issue as yours…but, i ran into an issue when i would open the camera app, and it would turn the screen black and freeze up the phone, did some digging and found out that i had a corrupt video file. I deleted the last video i took, and that cleared up the issue.

except voiding any protection plan you have on it. but i guess you can always re-image it before you take it in… has anyone had problems getting a replacement phone after your rooted one died?

as far as SD cards, i have a sandisk 16gb and its stable. its not the fastest card on the market, but its fast enough to keep up with my phones processor.

I am trying to remember the facts about rooted phones. I think initially something about Google or Motorola saying it would void or not be supported, something. Then they reversed that decision. Hopefully someone can chime in on that.

When you do root, you can make an disk image or something of the original and always revert back to it.

I know this is all sketchy info, so hopefully someone can clarify.

As for me, I bought protection with the phone where if something happened with rooting, I could just toss it in the river and get it replaced. But from what I have read, very little people have issues rooting. Not even very big or average people.

Once a Phone bricks there is little to anything They can do to find out you did anything to it. However to be safe, and I did this, Take your SD card out and Wipe it. IF you leave the phone with them for “repair replacement” They will likely use your old SD card. SO any of those files that would be rooting related will be able to be seen, and YES they will go through it. That is the only problem I have heard of people having. I bricked mine, wiped the SD card. from my computer and got a new phone under warranty.

As long as or phone turns on though there should always be away to recover and get it back up and running on your own.

As what others said… techincally, rooting your phone DOES void the warranty… but.. that is only if you get caught. Always make backups. if your phone isn’t bricked, remove all the rooted apps, and flash back to factory before having it serviced.

Tethering is awesome! I paid for tethering at first.. $20 per month.. just for the once or twice i used it per month. Then found out about tethering free via root… and rooted mine. I haven’t done anything else with it. I like the current rom so have no need for anything more. Also… with rooting, you can get other appps like Titanium Backup Pro and FREEZE the bloatware that comes on your phone (like blockbuster, mycity ID, skype, etc). Nice to not have those applications running in the background when you don’t use them. Be careful not to DELETE or UNINSTALL any programs that are stock. Doing so will ensure you don’t ever get another update. When updates are ready for your phone… unfreeze those apps, unroot your phone, and get the update!
