( General Discussion Forum
MOST topics are welcome. Posts of political or religious nature will be deleted.)
Isn’t this one of the rules already set up by the owner of the web site?
The owner of the website has already said a member can start any member group they want. Anyone interested in participating in the discussion in that group will have to ask for access. The posts in a group are not displayed openly in the forums like the rest of the topics.
For that reason, I really don’t see what’s being discussed here. IDO isn’t going to create an open forum for the discussion of politics, religion… or even football. That’s what the member groups are for. Going this route insures two things.
1) – members have an avenue to discuss most anything they want to discuss.
2) – if someone doesn’t want to participate or even see a discussion on politics or other hot-button topic, if you don’t want to see it… you never will.
You’d have to WANT to see it and go through the process of asking for access.
I hope this clarifies the difference between a forum and a group and their intended usage.
Why do we have member groups? IDO has always tried to keep moderation to a minimum and provide members with some degree of choice and control with regards to what they read or contribute here. The member groups are another example of this in action.
The only caveat I have for allowing member’s to create a group would be topics of hate speech, illegal activity or pornography. Not that anyone here would start such a group… just sayin.
