DUDE!! I have been scooping minnows, selling Moxies and making sure Redneck knows where the back channel is!

Ben, I believe BK may have snuck out early to catch some pigs.
We want pictures.
March 26, 2011 at 1:13 pm #950815Dang it Tom!
Jessy put up a good report…I’ve got the pictures, but it’s going to be a while before they are posted.
March 27, 2011 at 1:49 am #950958Doesn’t really pay to put up the picks that I took this morning now, it’s all changed!
March 27, 2011 at 10:59 am #951010Depends on how you look at it Denny. From a spawning fish point of view…much better.
From a launch point of view it’s decreasing.
Today’s update:
Back forty parking has ended. On the North end, the water has risen to the edge of the retaining wall by cabin #2.
03/27 678.02ft 72.1kcfs
The fishing report is as normal for this type of flow.
20% report good fishing
50% report no to a tough bite
30% report a slow bite.
Based on yesterdays reports. If you are planning to fish the main channel like you have in the past, you would do yourself well buy cleaning out your garage today. If there’s fish there, there isn’t a way to present them an offering naturally and you’ll go home fishless.
Fishing the current seams next to the slack water is key.
The river is safe to fish…HOWEVER, use some common sense!
This is not the time to check your full throttle speed. We all can see the tree or two coming down stream, it’s the clear ice that’s going to catch you off guard…at best it’s going to scare the crap out of you and possible damage your transducer, lower end or hull. It’s only two miles to the dam area and “just” being on plane will get you there, a hair slower, but you will get there.
March 27, 2011 at 2:06 pm #951069Now is an excellent time to practice your lifejacket wearing skills-the fish are there, but like Brian said and Dean told EVERYONE yesterday-it only takes one chunk to ruin your day. It’s amazing how much concern Dean has for everyone going out there, even though it’s really not his responsibility to what happens to you or how well you do fishing. On that note, for all that have a hard time fishing the river or really don’t have any clue, there are a bunch of REALLY GOOD guides that call the river their home and can shorten your learning curve by a ton. It’s a pretty common thread this time of year to see people who primarily fish lakes and go home scratching their heads wondering how anyone could ever have a 50 fish day out there. If it’s really your first time on the river, never navigated on a river, don’t understand stage and flow or can’t read current and how fish relate to changes in flow and stage; hire a guide and learn the true enjoyment of this world class fishery–cause it’s true, 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish. Saturday was just plain TOUGH and most went home fishless—-then two guys(well known river rats) came in and had 20-25 fish on the day–now ask yourself, who would you rather be?

Looks like Everts Resort might survive the Flood of 2011.
The first pic is looking down the road toward the fish cleaning house and the North Ramps.
The second pic is of the “back 40” used for parking. That was dry yesterday morning.
The third and last picture is of the Everts Resort iconic dock.
As I’m typing and looking out the window at the river, I see boat flying by frequently at wot. I’m wondering if they think the fish won’t wait for them?
Very little ice coming down today, but all it takes is one clear piece that’s not readily visible to turn your day into an unhappy one.
March 27, 2011 at 11:37 pm #951209I have told you time in time out NOT to clean our camping spot,
No more baked goods for youHeres to all stays dry up there
huskerduPosts: 592March 28, 2011 at 7:28 am #951283BK wheres the Web cam ? I always questioned why Deans/Everts doesn’t have a web cam? Good luck Dean, I hope you sneakers stay dry!
March 28, 2011 at 9:33 am #951285With a web cam, your boss would know when you called in sick to go fishing!
March 28, 2011 at 9:46 am #951287I don’t like counting a limit of walleyes before I go fishing…but, by the forecasts this morning, all all ramps could be open in a week to ten days…instead of just the one there is now.
Dean, I think you can stop wearing those Light Pink Shorts now!
I knew it would help to tell the Dam Clerk to put a cork in it!!
sandmanndPosts: 928March 28, 2011 at 11:54 pm #951544Man that’s up. Was there last Thursday, it’s gone up a lot since then.

You’re welcome! (I think!)
The FW wanted to know why I told you to “put a cork in it.”
She wanted to know what you were saying.
I explained it was a tongue in cheek statement to have you stop the water. I hope others didn’t read that wrong too.
The Great Flush of 2011 continues!
March 29, 2011 at 2:05 pm #951733From this morning, March 29th.
Still launching out of Everts…
Everts…still hanging in there, limited parking, swift current when loading.
WI Back channel…useable with knee boots, old upper landing.Probably unusable tomorrow.
Bay City… same as above.
Major debris yesterday afternoon from the backwater swamps. Proceed with as much caution as possible.
Should anyone have additional info, please post accordingly.
March 30, 2011 at 4:18 pm #952226Latest update on P4 from Dean~
Coville & Baypoint – Closed
Wi Back Channel- Closed
Baycity- parking lot under water
Everts- Useable for those who have above average river experience. I would not recommend in-experienced or solo anglers to be on the river.Parking is minimal, but will assist as much as possible.
SAFETY first everyone ! Cold water temps continue to make the bite very tough . Although relatively clear right now of debris, major backwater ice has come through mid-day the past 2 days. I have no way of being able to predict that.
This will be a great year for the fish to have a great spawn and the post spawn bite will be awesome!
March 30, 2011 at 4:30 pm #952231Be safe… hopefully this will end soon and without too much flood damage!!

March 30, 2011 at 5:23 pm #952254Always poking Doc! Do you know what an Alumacraft smells like with Secret 7 under each seat!
Kooty, NOAA says it’s dropping but will start rising again tomorrow, then start dropping again around Sat night Sunday morning.
March 31, 2011 at 12:19 am #952372Not to worry, I know what you meant.
Did any Gator’s show up at the landing today?
March 31, 2011 at 1:34 am #952412No Gators…but with some remarks coming out of Eue Clair, there might be a “Doc” going down stream soon.
March 31, 2011 at 5:11 pm #952619Well… Keep your eyes open – there’s one headed that way right now…

No kidding! That dock made it about 5 miles last year and depending on where it ends up, 5+ miles this year. Two years ago there was a pontoon attached to it…not sure where that went.
March 31, 2011 at 6:52 pm #952666I heard such dock displacement is key to flathead catfish migration—a pontoon attached to it would only intensify the process, well as allow more than one banjo player to join in the fun! Studies by the MDNR have shown that all successful flathead migrations are due to good banjo playing, but the WDNR said further studies are warranted due to most banjo players being fairly tone deaf and playing out of tune. WDNR speculates that “in tune” banjo playing allows the flatheads to more precisely follow their migration routes and “out of tune” banjo playing tends to lead them astray.
Hence, further studies need to be done.
