Interesting Thought on American Products!!!

    Got this in an email

Did you all see that Diane Sawyer has a special report coming up this week on this very subject. They removed ALL items from a typical, middleclass family’s home, that were not made in the USA. There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items – USA made – being brought in to replace everything. And will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc.

It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 (more than normal) on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs.
    Made ME think!

    Check the Can

I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT WALMART.
ON THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID ‘FROM CHINA’.

FOR EXAMPLE THE “OUR FAMILY” BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN ‘FROM CHINA’.

I WAS SHOCKED!! SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE SINCE IT’S FROM CALIF.

TAKES FOREVER JUST TO BUY FOOD AND DO LABEL READING!!

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear — or — is it that we just do not think? While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets.

Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.

Well, duh..why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?

    SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says ‘Made in China’ or ‘PRC’ (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor…fast!!

The downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory. Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

The solution? Let’s give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on March. 4th and continue it until April. 4th That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.

Remember, March. 4th to April. 4th

    START NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let’s show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can’t live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

    Pass it on, America.

    Food For Thought!!!

I wonder , with the crisis in Japan, if we don’t start to make more items in our country..

what’s really funny, is that Kolher tried to cut cost by moving to Kentucky.. and after 2 years shut the plant down in like one day and moved every thing back to Kohler Wisconsin.. the Midwest still holds a true work ethic that is not found in most of the country..

I can’t say that’s its as good as it was in the 60’s or 70’s .. but its still fairly good and well respected..

I just hope that we see more companies moving TV’s and radios, and refridgerators, and stoves back into this country.. for what ever reason.

and no I am not happy about the Japan crisis.. I truly feel for the Japanense.. and I hope the situation doesn’t escalate in to an even bigger problem..

Just playing the devil’s advo here. People in general are way to lazy to look, and even more impatient to wait. Most people need it to be exactly what they want, where they want it, and needed it yesterday. It would work to send a message IF everyone demanded it to be made in the USA and were willing to order it and wait. Also, the selection of US goods are at an all time low. How do you demand something that is US made…when it doesn’t exists?

Here is a website devoted to Made in the USA. It has a ok search engine

I went through that a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for a new baitcaster and happened to see it was made in China. I set is down and chose the one made in Sweden. While not quite American made but it’s closer. Any one else find it funny that a Shimano (Japanese) reel is made in China the shipped here? What happened to the old days of fine china and Japanese crud? Times have changed.

No. But I’ll stand behind what I wrote. There is not one single reatil tire store in the metro that stocks trailer tires made in the USA. Not one!

I could be wrong, but I’ve been hearing for a while that some, if not all of the Abu Garcia reels are made in China now.

I double checked and the C4 I bought is made in Sweden. It could actually be Sweden China but I know it said Sweden.

I went through it when trying to buy made in USA boots last year.

    Failed.

    Nothing at Cabela’s.
    Nothing made by Red Wing.
Didn’t bother to check at Wal-Mart.

Bass Pro shops doesn’t even list where it’s made anymore. It just says “Imported”.

This does work and I have been doing it for some time. Lone Wolf Treestands were made in the USA for years, they moved the manufacturing to China for the 2010 models. Enough people complained on Websites and stopped buying them and this year they are back making them in the USA.

Is it easy, no it’s not but it is worth it to support our relatives, friends, neighbors, and US citizens that have lost and may loose their jobs if we continue buying from overseas.

Buy American or at least made in America!

Just imagine if the same passion as the Protesters in Madison were directed towards one chain of stores every month demanding all “non-USA” items were shipped back, and to only provide made in the USA products. Could you imagine how Walmart (corporate level) would respond to loosing over 1 BILLION dollars per day because of a boycott?????? If you want to change a company, you (as the consumer) change it by changing how much money goes into its’ wallet.
Here is from the Walwart website:
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., (NYSE: WMT) serves customers and members more than 200 million times per week at more than 8,900 retail units under 60 different banners in 15 countries. With fiscal year 2011 sales of $419 billion, Walmart employs more than two million associates worldwide. A leader in sustainability, corporate philanthropy and employment opportunity, Walmart ranked first among retailers in Fortune magazine’s 2010 Most Admired Companies survey.

I sell Snap-on, we are more geared toward automotive than construction. Either way it is another great American made product.

Are you willing to pay the higher cost for American products, or are you expecting these companies to lower their profit margin? Walmart has (I assume they still do it) a 20% rule that if American made products can keep their cost within 20% they will carry the American products. So looks like it is on the manufacturer to lower the cost of their products. Or those suppliers would need to make a lower profit margin. I don’t think stockholders would like that.

I was also curious about the statement Rat made about Kohler. You have inside information because I can’t seem to find any info on your statement? I only found that Kohler closed plants all over based on the economy. I did find that as of 10/10, Kohler is talking about closing a WI plant because of high union labor cost and moving the jobs South. That seems to go against your statement that they were so quick to return to work ethic of the Midwest.

I’m not anti-American products, just a realist. We are a consumption, not a production, nation. I buy what works best for me based on cost, quality, and features. If it is American, great. If not, well maybe an American company needs to step up and offer something better.

Yes, that was from the Investor’s page.

If retailers know that the majority of people will settle for something, they’ll never demand what we want. Most people buy specifically on price and not where it is made.

Also, we are really looking at a catch-22 situation. If a US company is only making 1000 units per year, the cost to make per unit is very high. If that same company could produce 100,000 of the same unit, their production costs would go way down. Problem really is, who is going to invest the $$$$$ to gamble with the chance that you will buy US Vs China. Also, look at how many corporations know dang well, they can make huge profits by farming out the manufacturing to the lowest bidder (usually over-seas). Why deal with the headaches and risk of operating a manufacturing plant, employees, …. to make the same amount of money or less?
