Two GPS Antennas, How’s It Work?

I have two Humminbird locators on the boat with an interlink also installed. If I mount one gps puck in the front and one in the rear will the waypoint information work between the two locators? Here is an example of my question: I’m idling along watching my side image and see a log so I pan over and hit mark. I then go to the front, throw down the trolling motor and look at the front locator. Will that waypoint be off the length of the boat or will the front puck put me on the rear pucks waypoint so I’m casting in the correct spot? Or dose each locator store there own pucks information? I hope this makes sense to you guys, if not I’ll try to reword it.

    Thanks,

    Scott Pellegrin

I don’t know $h!t about HB but I want to wish you a Happy
    Birthday!

Are both antennas working independently so the signal is
    not shared?

You need to think of a waypoint as a mark in the sand. And where ever your antenna is for the unit your using is what matters. If you mark a point with your rear unit and antennaa on the rear, and go to it with a front unit( provided the front unit antenna is up front) you will be on the exact same spot minus the accuracy of gps, which varies from a couple feet to many depending on how many satellites your unit is seeing
hope this is a little clearer than mud.

It appears you can select which antenna you want to use or
    you can have it autoselected.

Auto should select the one with the best reception.

This is only if you have interlink,or Ethernet, and other sources of gps. If you have 2 separate units with 2 separate antennas, you can use auto select, but it will only have the local source to select from.

He stated that he has the interlink installed.

When you mark a waypoint you are pinpointing that exact latitude and longitude position on the earth. That waypoint is stored as one number regardless of which unit it is marked on and if its saved in the interlink.

In your example if you are marking from sidescan for waypoints I would have that gps puck for the si unit as close as possible over my si transducer to ensure as close of accuracy as possible. If you are planning to use the bow mount to go back and work that spot you are also going to want that bow gps puck as close to trolling transducer as possible.

I would absolutely not run autoselect for gps. Run the si on its puck and the bow unit on its own. This will ensure the waypoint will be directly positioned to the display you are looking at.

    What units do you have?

I have been running the 997si on my console and 788ci on my bow interlinked for the past two years exactly as above and love it!

He also stated he has 2 antennas, it depends on if his gps is on the interlink or not. if the gps are hooked directly to each unit, then interlink has no control over them.Interlink then only shares waypoints, not gps.

I think you answered your own question but you will mark your waypoint on SI with your dash unit using your dash GPS puck (hopefully mounted on the stern of the boat). Interlink will transfer that waypoint to your bow unit. You’ll then use your bow unit with your bow GPS puck to navigate back to that exact spot with your trolling motor. You’ll be right on the spot give or take GPS margin of error. Your boat length won’t matter as each GPS puck has its own antenna and has its own place in space.
