Removing the power head from a 25 hp johnson 80s model. I blew a piston but was able to get the same motor and it actually runs for $150. I want to remove the power head and put it on my motor because there is some things I dont like about the new motor. There are 6? bolts and I have 4 out but there is 2 nylon nuts inside the motor that appear to be impossible to get any tool on it. Any advice would be appreciated so I can get back on the river. Starting to get river anxiety! Forget starting, I’m goin crazy because ive been waiting for a month for pool 2 to stop the teasing and the day lilydale was opened up, my motor took a crap.

I do not recall the make but there was one I worked on that I had to remove the lower unit. There was a shift linkage that was bolted togther to attach the shaft halves rather than a splined shaft.

Some of them can be bears to get apart. No access to bolts due to cowlings. Maybe see if you can remove the LU then the mid body housing???

Since you are working on it do the Impeller too, then it gives you a reason to pull the LU anyways.

Best Luck, it can be baffeling sometimes. — Mark

I was wondering if the lower cowling comes off, then I could get right to them. I guess i was hoping there would be less stuff to take off. I think I just need to break down and get a repair manual.
