Head toward spawning areas… feeder creeks, shallow muckier marshy areas… if they aren’t in those ares, then fish the water leading into those areas…

I’d take a look at the DNR site for Wisconsin when choosing were to fish these.

    DNR Wisconsin

Looks like all inland water closes the first Sunday in March for Northern Pike.

This is exactly how i chase early season pike. It sure is fun once you get into them.

I’d look along the Wisconsin River. Backwater area’s that are easy to slide up onto and back down to the river, little connector ponds, pools. Whatever is well protected shallow with weeds like bullrushes and any vegetation under water. Might take some hit and miss trying but if you have the time you will find them.

Down here thier some of the first fish to clean up the winter kill in the shallows just after ice out. Id bet if thier not in the shallows under the ice thier right next to them stageing to go in.
