Can anyone tell me the model or models that Dean from Everettes recommends for jig pitching? I read a post quite a while back on this, but I couldn’t remember the specifics. Thanks in advance. Gary

69MLXF for braid and 68MXF for mono
I like the Avid Series
They have them in the Eyecon series as well now.

I’ve fished all the models as a St.Croix (NUT) for over 50 years… both tournaments and guiding. IMHO the best bank for your buck, for one rod, fishing jigs is the Legend Tournament series LTWS 68 MXF… here is a comparison…Avid series… $180
• Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) tooling technology.
• Premium, high-modulus SCIII graphite.
• Fuji® Alconite® Concept Guide System with black frames.
• Select-grade cork handle.
•
Legend Tournament Walleye… $230• Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) tooling technology.
• Advanced Reinforcing Technology™ (ART™).
• High-modulus/high-strain SCIV graphite.
• Fuji® Alconite® Concept Guide System with chrome frames.
• Machined-aluminum wind check.
• Super-grade cork handle.A lighter, faster, more responsive rod for only $50. But if $180 is your budget limit, Dustin Stewart has probably caught more and bigger walleyes than anyone I know with an Avid 68 MXF…
March 10, 2011 at 3:34 am #945733I’ve got a 68MXF Legend Tournament rod, wishing for a 69MLXF to complement it.

March 10, 2011 at 11:13 am #945754I had an Avid 63MXF. Loved it. Owned it for ten years. Bought a 69MXF 7 years ago. The 6′ 3″ tip broke so I sent it in to replace it. Paid the replacement cost and expected the same model back. A guy from the warranty dept called and offer a $50 upgrade to the Tournament Legend. So I said I suppose I’ll give it a shot. I ordered the 70MLXF. That rod is my new go to. Light, super sensitive, the action on it is PERFECT for rigging. I highly recommend the extra $50 but for pitching or jigging I would recommend a slighty shorter 68 or 69 model.
March 10, 2011 at 1:38 pm #945798I also am a big fan of St. Croix rods. I have three of the Tournament Legends. I just purchased two of the Eyecon Series rods. All I can say is WOW! If the more expensive rods are out of your price range, I highly recommend the Eyecon Series. For the average angler to the hardcore they are the best bang for the buck.
March 10, 2011 at 1:43 pm #945799And to add that Tournament legend MLXF 7 is an awesome rod for pitching blade baits, and light jigs. I own three.
March 10, 2011 at 4:37 pm #945863Whatever price point you have to go with, most are very happy with Croix’s..good news is, quality products across the line.
March 10, 2011 at 5:10 pm #945878My 3 favorite St. Croix rods would be, in order:
1. 6’9″ MLXF in the Legend Extreme
2. 7’0″ MF in the Legend Extreme
3. 6’8″ MXF in the Legend Tourney
I don’t see many people speak about the 7,0″ medium, but I just got it this Spring and can’t say enough about it’s pitching capabilities. It’s a delight to fish with it. But yeah, I would have to say my 6’9″ MLXF is my go to for anything pitching. Hope this helps!March 10, 2011 at 9:26 pm #945972Quote:

Right On Tom!
I’ve scrimped, saved and sold to upgrade to the Legend Extreme rods and I will agree the the XS70MLXF is probably the most versatile of the bunch!
It has the tip feel of the XS69MlXF for small blades and finesse but can pickup more line and has more leverage. A great Bass Dropshot rod for crossover use…March 11, 2011 at 2:56 am #946076Tom, thank you and all the great responders to my inquiry on rods. I have nine of them and it looks like I”ll add another soon. Have to get my looking done before I come up to Pool 4. Thanks all again. Gary
