I still have to say without pictures, it’s just a fish story.

I posted the pics online here years ago. I’m sure I could dig them up again. Not that we should be promoting such behavior…

Ok…more than a fish story and not worth digging up.

Speaking of not promoting that behavior…what the ‘ell was wrong with you?

Bad case of “thought I was immortal” I guess. I’ve learn a lot since then. Now I’ll only do dumb stuff and I draw the line at stupid.

I would think that in the years past they put a no wake over the whole river didn’t they? And I would also think that most of the boat ramps and such will be closed…..

when there is a will,(and the means) there is a way…

you could always launch the boat off the ditch into the vermillion and ride her down!

Almost all of my favorite ice bites happen late ice so I don’t mind. I’m actually hoping to be ice fishing somewhere that first week in April since the river down here is looking like it will be a bust.

now, why would you say the river is going to be a bust?

Flood. If someone is looking to fish the Mississippi River this spring they should likely be thinking mid to late March. I think things are going to get crazy by that first week in April and I’m busy on the ice until the end of March. So… I’m starting to think about optional destinations, etc.

Fish still gotta eat… and i’ll be one to present them a tasty snack on those days when people are afraid to run the river.

might have to break out the mudboat for spring fishing this year, with all of the log jumping i may be doing…

Back in 2000 (I believe it was 2000 if memory serves) launching or operating a boat anywhere on the river was against the law for several weeks during the high point of the flood waters.

I just wanted to maker this mountain of quotes higher.

What happened to the river rat in you ? To much ice fishing, brain freeze will do that to a guy !

I know that as long as an angler can put a boat in the river legally that there will be walleye/sauger to be caught on the river regardless of water levels. Might be in a different zip code but the fish have no choice but to stay in the river and can be caught .

Brave words from the guy that went into great detail not a week ago on the phone about how he didn’t want another high water spring like last year.

Right on . I love high water but once it gets to the point of flooding like it did the last two Springs it’s a little to much……..oh never mind that’s not the point.

The point is, I know of several anglers that ran from the river with their tail between their legs last two Springs cause the conditions they were faced with were not the norm, and the fishing was good ……welcome to the mighty Miss !

Whether I like the water high as it was the Last two Springs or not, I’m still very confident walleye/sauger will be caught no matter the levels as long as the coast guard will allow us to float a boat

Heck, I don’t think I’ve fished pool 4 in two YEARS, high water or low.

Has it really been that long? I know I haven’t been there in the spring for 2, maybe even 3, years.

Some, not all of the public ramps had barricades. Some police depts said the river was closed.

Truth was, the river was never closed and there was access at Willies and by Locking up for certain.

The river never was closed. The cities have control over the ramps getting to the river but no control over river. If you are ever wondering about whats going on on the river its the coast guard you want to check with.

Some of the ramps where closed but the river was still open. Willies Hidden harbor was the place to go. Mississippi pub will be another place to watch for launching during high water this year.

I remember Deano telling me about catching carp off the runways at the airport in St Paul. As kids we used to catch saugers and walleyes of the gravel road at Edder. The road was about knee deep under water at the time. We would just wade the road bed casting twister tails.
