One BELOW zero right now with a -16 wind chill. The calendar says spring is on the way. The weather man says we’re making ice.

Almost all of my favorite ice bites happen late ice so I don’t mind. I’m actually hoping to be ice fishing somewhere that first week in April since the river down here is looking like it will be a bust.

Spring will come…or so they tell me.

As long as it doesn’t snow, I’m running out of room to put it.

now, why would you say the river is going to be a bust?

Flood. If someone is looking to fish the Mississippi River this spring they should likely be thinking mid to late March. I think things are going to get crazy by that first week in April and I’m busy on the ice until the end of March. So… I’m starting to think about optional destinations, etc.

Thankfully we’re not expecting all that much from tomorrow’s snow “event.”

Some will fish th Rainy until April 14th.

Some will go to Canada for the ice.

Some will fish panfish around here….

and others will be fishing the only walleye/catfish game in town…the sippi.

There is some comfort knowing that you’ll be able to pitch K-grubs and get a Big Mac out of the Red Wing McDonalds Drive Thru window at the same time.

There’s always some fish to be caught during periods of very high water.

Fish still gotta eat… and i’ll be one to present them a tasty snack on those days when people are afraid to run the river.

might have to break out the mudboat for spring fishing this year, with all of the log jumping i may be doing…

These robins have been coming back to this same tree every night since January! I don’t know what they are thinking…But I think they are crazy! Not a crawler to be found for 500 miles at least!!!

It was good from the boat as well

I think this will be this first FYB I have fished when there is still a foot of snow on the ground. Early March looks good on the river

    Not so loud Louis!

People generally fish the same places in high water as they do in lower water. We need to keep somethings on the down low.

…and I have yet to see a robin, although I did have a morning dove in the evergreens yesterday.

I would think that in the years past they put a no wake over the whole river didn’t they? And I would also think that most of the boat ramps and such will be closed…..

Back in 2000 (I believe it was 2000 if memory serves) launching or operating a boat anywhere on the river was against the law for several weeks during the high point of the flood waters.

Sorry to break the chain of quotes.

    2001 Mr. Holst

Any wake and even the wind causes damage…I’m guessing it was closed in 1965 as well since one could boat OVER L&D #3.

Although there were too many witnesses….

I still have to say without pictures, it’s just a fish story.
