Can`t leave out the Navy DP Third Class 1971-1975 USS Independence CVA62 aircraft carrier a city on the water 2400 ships company and 2600 Airdales for a full compliment of 5000 souls.

In the Mediterranean during the Mideast crisis picking up dead civilians from the water from commercial aircraft being blown up in the air. Dealing with Russian submarines and Bear aircraft. When we would resupply side by side from our support ship the Russian subs would try and come between us trying to force us to break away to try and keep us from resupplying. The Russian Bears would come in looking like they were going to land on our deck, and there would be Phantoms all over them, never knowing what there true plan or intentions were. Tensions were high when encounters like this were going on daily. We spent 101 days at sea with out any breaks working 7 days a week 12 hours a day. With at least one General Quarters being called daily never knowing if this was going to be the start of the big one. The cold war was hot and heavy during these times.

I try and thank all that serve any time I have the chance. A Salute to all that serve. THANK YOU

I wanted to go Air Force back in Highschool. Broke my back and did not have a 100% recovery. Was not able to pass the physical.
