Just wondering if any other fellow Chevy owners had their speedometer, or other gauge on their instrument cluster fail on them. From what I have been reading is this pretty common for 2003-2007 chevy’s. Mine is above the 70,000 mark and dealer said $400-600, now I have read other things about getting the part from ebay and a simple soder job and done. I know a couple people that can soder.

I also found a guy in La Crosse that does a lot of these but thought I would check with others before moving forward.

Please let me know if this happened to your chevy

Going thru the same thing, yup pretty common…2003 Chevy Suburban 106000 miles and the speedo, tach, temp all acting up. Only warrantied to 70000 miles. My dealer told me the new cluster from GM installed $300.00 and it could only be done once, something about the computer. Did a little looking on the net and found a guy that would repair gauges for $125 a piece, but they had to be removed and sent to him. Think I’ll bite the bullet and go with the GM replacement.

I’ve got an ’03 silverado and just had the speedometer gauge fail. I pulled the cluster, set up on the kitchen table, resoldered in a new stepper motor and now good to go. There are a couple good videos on you tube that show how its done. I ended up buying the stepper motor on ebay from an outfit in Winona for 13 bucks. Fix it yourself, go for it..it’s not that bad.

I used a guy out of Winona Mn who charged $75 and guarantees the work for life. He was super fast and my gauges have worked great since. I found him on EBay. Do a search on eBay for Chevy gauge repair and you will find him, his name was Dave and his phone number.

It happened to my 03 suburban at about 80K. It ran fine to over 200k until I sold it. GL

Can’t remember which one but my pig tail in winter would short and send dash stuff into frenzy. I clip it off now.

That was the guy – I called him this morning $100 for the all the work, sounds good to me, plus he is local (for me anyway) so no shipping.

Ya my gas gauge goes from full to empty in 5 seconds flat. Thanks god for the trip meter to keep track of the miles.

I should say it is $75 to replace 1 motor or $100 to replace all of them.

Great…my ’03 Silverado recently passed over the 100k mark. I just had to replace tires, get an alignment, and new tie rods. Hopefully my gauges are not the next thing to fail

Yup I used the guy in La Crosse when mine went out around Christmas time. $115 to change out all gauges. my battery meter was dead and my speedo would stick. took the cluster out put in a 5 dollar flat rate shipping box and got it back in 2 days. Very easy to take out cluster, pop trim off, lower the steering wheel to the lowest level, apply parking brake and put vehicle in neutral, remove 4 screws and then the wiring harness. 5 minute job.
    highly recommend the guy
