I’m sure that there are other posts about this. I’m thinking about bying a handheld GPS. Probably would like have the option of using a Lakemasters chip. Color would be nice. Could you reccommend the best route. looking to spend around $300 or less.

There have been many posts about hand held GPS. You might want to do a search. I have a Lorwance XOG and I use it in my truck, and as a hand held. I really like it. I own a mid-west chip. I have used someone elses MN chip and it does have more details. My only complaint is the low battery life and you can only charge it with a lighter plug. This is not good for lots of hand held use during ice fishing. I plan to put in a plug in my boat for summer use. I know when I bought mine a few years ago it was under $300, but not sure what they are now.

Every now and again I run across a Lowrance H20C new on ebay. They ussualy go for around $250.00 – $275.00. This is a discontinued model, but absolutly love mine.
Never tried Lakemaster, but no problem with Navionics premium.

BestBuy has the new Lowrance Endura Safari for $249.99 and the Endura Out&Back for $199.99. These are supposed to be H2O replacements.

I had too many problems with my H2O, so I went this route. Some have had good luck with the Lowrance products, I think customer service is a good indication of the overall quality of a product. Knock on wood, have not had to use Garmin’s customer service. Jolly Anne

I trust Garmin. I have an origial Map 76 which is basically useless for me now. I just wish they would make the screens bigger. Bigger screens is where its at. I dont think the answer is on the hardware itself. There needs to be a breakthrough on the medium used for video. Holographic or something floating in air. Just visually BIGGER.

    ps-I really love my H2O…..

My H2Oc has been a wonderful unit, actually I had two the first one was stolen and never had a problem with that one either. If you have an Android, or iPhone Navionics sells an app that works very nicely and is as accurate as my H2Oc in initial testing this winter. I did have it lock up my phone once and I had to power it down and back up, but other than that for $9.99 it has been great. Might even consider selling my H2Oc and chips!!!!
