Purchased a brand new snowblower and used leaf blower from a guy on craigslist – he was getting his truck repo’d and needed the money.

Literally, I bought it at the pawnshop’s front door. This guy was down on his luck and I paid about 50% what the stuff was worth.

Has a lawn/snow business. I told him I would sell the leaf blower back to him, in the spring – for what I paid for it.

So, today, he calls and wants to “rent” the snowblower from me.

What would my fellow IDO’ers do?

    Very interested….

Depends on what he will charge you to blow out your driveway after Snowmaggeden V3.6

Tell him you will sell it back for what you paid otherwise you would just as soon hang onto it.

If hes really down on his luck to that extent Id let him use it with the understandiing you get it back after the snow has been taken care of. Get his name, phone number and license plate number, maybe even deliver it to his house so you can see where he lives, he shouldn’t mind. It doesen’t hurt to help a guy who needs it.

Do you have a receipt showing you own the blower ?? Possession, I have heard is 90% of the law.. I am guessing he has a receipt when his business bought it.. I would be leary, with someone I didn’t know at all

Rent it from you, blow out his accounts and make money. Personaly I would offer maybe to do his drive for cheap at the most, I wouldnt rent it to him for him to make money off of.

take a deposit for the price you paid unless you know and trust him.

If you really want to help him.
At least ask him to send his request via Email, the more detail about the snow blower in the email , the better.

Never mind what your heart is saying, what does your gut tell you? It would be pretty ballsy for him to try and screw you with you knowing where he lives, however you do need more than his word in case something goes wrong. What is the worse thing that could happen, he is offended you some how ask for a signed agreement? If that happens, then you are off the hook, you don’t have to feel guilty. Problem solved.

You met the guy… you decide.
I’d at least find out the situation…If he just needs his driveway cleared I’d do it. The guy is down on his luck and you are not…you got the equipment for 1/2 price… where I live that would be a no brainer for anyone I know in the area. Its a good deed on your part and I’ll bet the guy/family would really be thankful.

Screw the cash, rent and signed agreements.

If he wants his driveway cleaned out do it for him.

If he’s planning on using it for business…see ya

Here is what I am going to do.

Since I bought a brand new 8/26 Cub Cadet Blower for $300 ($1000 MSRP) but on sale for $799, and this guy is really down on his luck.

I am letting him use it – and he gets to blow out my rental properties. I like an underdog, 2nd chances, come-back story and basically the good of my fellow man. I guess it is where I am from and how I was raised. I can’t help it. Call me a softy.

Rental Agreement, $799 Deposit and copy of his MN Lic.

It that doesn’t work for him – TS.

If the guy has $799 to give you on deposit he probably wouldnt have been at the pawn shop selling it for $300… Just sayin’

I’m with Gursky and BK on this one. I’d hate to not help a guy down on his luck, and I’d hate to get screwed by someone either. I think their coombined suggestions are pretty sound.

Can you buy me a new Utility sled. I’ll rent it back from you this month.

There is a fine line between a softy and a dummy Reminds me of the saying.. “a fool and his money are soon parted”… I agree, if he has $799, he should just go buy one on sale…
