Just turned on Boston Mtl.game.Second period.8 goals, all in fight includeing “goalie fight”.Eleven players in the penalty box.Right in the middle of a braul a hockey game broke out.Second goalie fight in 10 days.Islander goalie should stick to hockey. He took a whoppin. Not a fan of either team but interesting.

This is the reason I stopped watching hockey years ago. I played hockey for 14+ years. Its a great game when played but there is a big difference in playing hockey and a fighting match …. and if you don’t know the difference I feel sorry for you, you missed out on the true fun of hockey. IMHO

Stinky have to agree with you, the new hockey rules have made the game much faster and more scoring. An occasional fight is part of the game but good checking and a fast pace is much better.

Don’t get me wrong there are times when a fight is needed, when you have someone with a stick all over you for most of a period it gets a little tiring. I have a few broken teeth from my younger days of playing but I enjoy the game so much more now that it is geared toward speed and not the bullies.

This hockey anymore is a cross between boxing and figure skating ! Remember Slapshot … not to far off anymore!

Today’s hockey is NOTHING like NHL hockey of the 70’s.
In the 70’s you had multiple fights per game. Now you get a fight per week.

Today’s hockey was ruined when they went to points for ties and shootouts. You have more teams playing for the “point” and willing to take a shoot out loss. It’s just like not keeping score in kids sports. You don’t teach winning anymore.

Today they fight to involve the crowd to sell tickets. Nobody watches hockey on TV anymore. You have owners that don’t know hockey or have a passion for the sport. They took a few (very few) more dollars and moved to Versus and dropped ESPN.

The hockey you want is played at the Olympics where you have bigger ice sheets.

Oh lord, where to begin. Some of you should stick to soccer.

Hockey today isn’t anything like it was in the past. I used to like the raw emotion of the game. Maybe letting guys jump over the boards to fight was a little excessive, but that is gone now. But today if someone runs your star player with less than 5 minutes left, unless you want a fine and a suspension, there is nothing you can do about it.

Hockey is still the greatest sport. If you stopped watching, you are missing out on a lot.

Not saying thats the kind of hockey I want to watch all the time. But it brought the players out of their day to day, play like I did yesterday to make the score look more like a football game.I agree its more and less fun to watch today than 15 years ago.You have skilled players that nightly make plays they would be replayed over and over 15 years ago. With that you have players that find the only way to control a skilled player is with a cheap shot.To say fighting is all thats in the NHL is to admit you don’t watch.I sometimes watch 4-5 games a week.I’d say 90 percent of the fights I see are to let someone know the shouldn’t take shot at skilled player or two grinders tie it up to fire up the team. You can watch a few games in a row with no fights. If you watched the game we were talking about the coaches were not cheering for the fight with multi-million dollar players on the ice that looseing one of them for several games could change the outcome of their season.Still think there is a time and a place in”pro” hockey for fighing. It adresses some issues without more new rules to drag the game down further.I will still watch a NCAA game over a NHL game almost anytime with no fighting .We just see very few in our market.Rocky Wertz has brought a new brand of hockey back to Chicago that all teams could learn from.As long as ther is hockey on tv I have no urge to watch a seven foot tall player with three foot arms put a ball in a ten foot rim and try to get excited.Just MHO.
