As I was staring at my LX-5 today watching a big mark come up and hammer my jig I got thinking. What is your favorite kind of hit? I just love it when you watch that mark and your spring bobber heads south. Then I thought man is it awesome to a big bass just destroy a frog in the slop. Those have to be 2 of my most favorite things when out fishing. Just thought i’d try to get away from the packer-viking bashing going on. Thanks, Dan

Bashing seems to have cooled the last few days, but back to your question. My favorite “ice” hit is the no hit bit. Basically your spring bobber goes limp because the fish came up and sucked it in while moving up the water column. I find that when this bite happens the pannies are big and active…
February 6, 2011 at 1:13 am #934058I get pretty excited when a planer board stops then heads the opposite direction
February 6, 2011 at 1:15 am #934059My favorite is pulling planer boards for Salmon and Lakers. Just trollin along and suddenly the reel clicker starts screaming. Then if you are running 3 boards per side and the outside rod goes its a mad house fire drill to get the inside rods clear so there are no tangles (non releasing boards). Pure adrenaline rush till that big fish is in the net for me.
Id say second would be one time I had to work Walleyes slowly up off the bottom following my spoon for what seemed eternity. After 6′-8′ from the bottom they would finally slamm it. Its like a great reward for determination and persistance.

February 6, 2011 at 1:56 am #934066For me, it’s working a topwater Bass Bug around cover with my flyrod. What gets my heart pounding is when “mama” sneaks up underneath the bug and sucks it down. It sounds like a toilet flushing. Man I can’t wait for spring!

February 6, 2011 at 2:19 am #934070Predawn, small bay, calm water and a Musky hitting a top water bait and all heck breaks loose.
That would probably be it for me.

February 6, 2011 at 2:38 am #934076Snap jigging merry x-mas hits when the fish takes it in on the drop, and anytime you get to detect that the fish hit moving towards you or up the column- slack line or less resistance.
February 6, 2011 at 2:40 am #934077Hucking a 2pound bulldawg in November and just as you start to rip you feel a little tick. Hold on to your that’s a good one
February 6, 2011 at 3:28 am #934086i like it when walleyes just crush your jig/plastic combo during the spring run. nothing like that thunk that you feel.
February 6, 2011 at 3:34 am #934089I had a 6 lb largemouth explode a topwater so loud I almost fell off my pedestal seat…wont forget that one!
February 6, 2011 at 4:42 am #934094My favorite fish strike is when I’m working a walking the dog type bait. I get so exhilirated by the missed strikes and then the one bite that takes the lure down.

x2 There is a small space in between the thunk and hook set where you know what is coming next…..I like that space
Thanks Dan, you just fired everyone up
Another classic hit in slow moFebruary 6, 2011 at 1:23 pm #934122Hmmm…this is a tough one. Planer board going the opposite way with the clicker screaming while salmon fishing, feeling a walleye smack a jig/ringworm or perhaps the slight tick at the end of my St. Croix while casting rapalas at night right after ice out.
Can’t decide, they all feel great though!
February 6, 2011 at 1:56 pm #934135My fav is whatever strike it takes to get a smile on a customers face….but in a close second, is the fish that turns the line out alarm on my Garcia 7000 into a high pitched siren!
Haven’t been able to duplicate it Dan!
February 6, 2011 at 2:21 pm #934145Just feeling any fish strike is great. Any type of fishing where you have the fishing pole in your hand and your attention is focused on what the lure is doing out there in the water to trick those fish then wham. That fish hits and its game on.
Pitching jigs or crank baits on the river for walleyes is a favorite of mine. Most of the strikes these fish deliver in these conditions are very hard hitting and committed. Not a lot of misses doing this.
Ice fishing its a good plastics crappie bite. Watching those crappies come flying up on the Marcum screen and smacking the lure or sending the rod limp. You know you are on a good bite when the fish are moving faster than the return on the flasher. Still have not found a good crappie bite yet this winter. If any one in the north metro is on one and is looking for some company let me know.
February 6, 2011 at 3:02 pm #934152I love seeing a slip cork just slowly disappear while open water fishing crappies.

Same page here. That thump at the end of a long cast in moving water cannot be beat!

jeff_hubertyInactivePosts: 4941February 6, 2011 at 5:50 pm #934191Im going to go with the jig/plastic bite when dragging. Trolling style hit on a spinning rod. Makes me jump every time! Casting same combo on the river a very close second. Ice would be when you can see the hit comming on the flasher. Nothing like one red line closing in on another!
February 6, 2011 at 7:30 pm #934222I kind of like the bobber sliding sideways or going under when fishing pike with suckers for 2 reasons. First, you never know when it is going to happen and you aren’t busy working a lure. Second, because we do this a certain time of year on a certain lake where we know it is going to be a big pike.
February 6, 2011 at 7:36 pm #934225Had to be a time on Lake Pepin I was trolling cranks and just handed the rod to one of my sons and BAMM!his eyes lit up and he yelled like ‘what should I do?” and I said ‘hold on to that rod!’and ‘reel it in!’
