We are in the midst of a bathroom remodel. Not finding a tub that we liked in town, we ordered one last week (1/17). It was scheduled to be delivered directly to our house “on or before 1/24.” Well, Monday rolled around, and no tub showed up, so I called the store to see what was up. The guy said he would check on it and get back to me, which he never did.

So, I called again on Tuesday, when I found out that the tub had been delivered to the store instead of my house. He offered to have it delivered to the house that afternoon, so all was good…for the time being.

When I got home from work today, the contractor had opened the tub and discovered a huge chunk missing along with a crack that extended from floor level about 4 inches up.

The contractor contacted the store immediately, and they tried telling him it would take 5-7 days to get a new one. I have spoken with the manager and let him know that he better have that thing expedited. We’re ready for the tub this week; I don’t want this delayed, as it’s costing me money every day the project takes as I have to board our dog. And using the basement bathroom is getting old.

I just had to get that off my chest. Hopefully, I will get some good news from the manager early tomorrow morning.

I feel your pain! A few years ago, we were building a house that was about 8000 sqft. The owner bought most of his marble and tile while in Greece and shipped it back to the States. Sat in customs for months.

Sounds like you bought that tub threw Home Depot or similar place. There are many places on line nowadays that can get a tub to you in just a few days. What type of tub did you get. Sounds fiber glass. Drop in or alcove? If its alcove make sure they ordered you one with a tile flange built on. Seen my share of bathroom remodels get redone because of no tile flange or a cheap add on one.

Welcome to the world of contractors.

Lead times are major problems in our world. Trying to time projects so all items are on hand before you start is difficult and sometimes impossible. Throw in a curve ball of damaged items just makes it even worse.

I tell all my clients that the only thing more exciting than having us start, is having us leave

Good luck, and hope Floyd gets home soon

He’s loving it because he gets to got to doggie daycare and play with other dogs all day, then come home and sleep all night. That’s not cheap, though

Well, the new tub arrived yesterday. I opened the box…you guessed it, another broken one.

Thanks for nothing, Lowe’s and Kohler

We’ve gone through that with Lowes and Home Depot with a bathroom vanity. It seems to be an all to common problem these days.

That is specifically the reason I did not shop at Home Depot. I guess Lowe’s joins them on my list now

Lowes is a little lower on the list than Home Depot. They seem to be about in the same class as Menards.

Had to laugh again yesterday when working on a water heater. Right under the sticker on it stating the nine year warranty is another one that states do not return this product to the store. Told the customer I guess you can pack it up and ship it to where ever it was made for warranty coverage. A warranty not even worth the paper it was written on.

You get what you pay for at these places. Lowes(t) customer service, Lowes(t) quality, Lowes(t) satisfaction. Almost forgot a cheap price but you will pay more in the end.

On a brighter note be happy that you didnt hire them to put your tub in for you.

Aside from HD, Lowes, and Menards, where can a homeowner go around here to buy a tub?

Star supply or gopher in st paul. Call and ask if they have what you are looking for. You can also go on line at places like faucets.com and many more. You can also buy threw your local plumber. He most likely wont be the cheapest but then again he doesnt have the buying power of lowes and also will most likely stand behind the product with a true warranty.

They have a pretty decent sized show room. Doesnt look like they carry Kohler but will most likely have something else you will like. There are a fair amount of plumbing supply houses that have gone away from Kohler due to their selling threw the big box stores.

Bring the wife and check book to Star. They have a good size show room. A lot more than what you will see at Lowes.

I hate to be the one to tell you Ralph, but being newly weds and in a new house…”it” as in “projects” won’t be completed for a few more years.

Just have fun with them, even if they don’t go as planned.

    Kitchen remodel…check
    New windows…check
    New gutters…check
    Bathroom remodel…in progress

This should be the last major project on the house for the near future. The sad part is even with the improvements, I am sure we couldn’t sell it for near what we paid for it 3.5 years ago

Forgot the outside and garage improvements.

Now that whole price thing will take the fun out of it won’t it?

No wonder I haven’t seen or heard about your fishing excursions!

    Ryan,

Is it a bathtub, or simply a bait tank in disguise?

Should’ve got the bubble tub. Would’ve been great aeration!

We had originally planned on only living here 3-5 years and then finding something better, but losing $50K doesn’t seem to appealing, so we decided to improve it and enjoy it for a few more years.

    Ralph,

I am concerned that you haven’t learned to portray yourself as being incompetent yet. Every marriage needs that or you lose your powerbase. Whenever my wife has a GFI (Great Fing Idea), I have to meet with one of my contractor friends usually while out fishing. A GFI is generally a plan that improves the lot of person A without person A having to do anything other than ask person B to do it. Generally, GFIs come back after consultation as being too expensive, illconceived, or kicked back for more details which often leads to another consultation.
