I have used it and it seems fairly accurate. Not bad for the price!
January 25, 2011 at 4:04 pm #930121Do a search for threads and you’ll find more info. The general consensus is that it is a great app and I am in that boat. However, in the last update they did they introduced some bugs. I have sometimes not been able to get contours or depth labels, some times both, to come up. I can’t pin a cause and a work around that Dtro supplied doesn’t seem to work.
I emailed them and here is the reply:
This issue is currently being worked on by our software development team, and will be corrected with the next update. Although we do not have a definite release date for this update, it should be available shortly as this is a currently a top priority.
If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to ask.
Best regards,
Navionics Mobile TeamEven with the bugs, I would go ahead and get it. Hopefully it isn’t flaky with the labels and contours when you are fishing and you can get used to the features.
If I could only recommend one Android app for fishing, this is it by a wide margin.
January 25, 2011 at 4:10 pm #930130I’m wondering if anyone has used it in Canada and what the feedback is up there where there are no cell towers.
January 25, 2011 at 4:18 pm #930137Have used in sw WI and this weekend up on Mille Lacs. Works great except for the occasional no showing of contours. End up shutting off the phone, turning it back on, kind of annoying. Still worth every penny.

Is that a work around that you figured out?I believe all the mapping info is downloaded on the first install, so not having cell towers would not be a problem. And as long as you have a GPS signal, seperate hardware from phone signal, you should be good to go.
January 25, 2011 at 5:01 pm #930167It has worked every time, but the phone needs to be completely shut off and restarted, takes about a minute. Have tried using the the Advanced Battery Improve App to kill all apps, but that does not work either. Full shutdown and restart works every time.
John SchultzInactivePortage, WIPosts: 3309January 25, 2011 at 5:13 pm #930168When I first got it, turning on the map overlay feature would lock it up and crash the phone. I sent them an e-mail asking if they knew how to get it unlocked, and they said it would be fixed in the next update as they knew it was an issue on the galaxy phones.
Shortly after that, the update came out and the issue was fixed. I had intended to mount my HDS5 on my ATV for ice fishing, but with the navionics app, there is no need.
It would be nice to be able to zoom in a bit more, and to use the pinch zoom, but you can’t have everything for 14 bucks. All in all, worth the money and puts you right where you want to be.
January 25, 2011 at 7:03 pm #930217Vote no for pinch zoom. I use my nose to pan and zoom so I can keep my gloves on. How about making the volume hardware button zoom and automatic adjustment of pan based on position.
January 25, 2011 at 7:37 pm #930236I agree with the pinch Zoom, because on the Droid it can very in responsiveness. I’d make it an optional setting.
dtroInactiveJordanPosts: 1501January 26, 2011 at 6:25 pm #930664I’ve been fighting for a pinch zoom on every update. Using your nose might work for panning but for crying out loud you must look like woodpecker zooming out to see a different region.
I sure hope they add a pinch, there is no reason you should have to hit “-” 50 stinkin times to go to a regional or state level.
I’ve seen the yellow screen bug people have talk about, but only on a Droid, it hasn’t happened to me yet on the X. Weird when it happens, just out of nowhere, everything goes pretty much blank.
on a side note for all you Droid users, a cool new app just came out called “Tail of the Tape”. It is a weight estimator based on length and girth measurments. Pretty cool little app, and they even have flathead and channel categories!! Matter of fact the forumla they used for Flattys looks pretty familiar. LOL

Funny, there is a guy named Darren that said about the same thing in the comments for the app.Do you know who made it? I see the developer’s number is 612….
By the way, restarting my phone did not work.

So sitting at home I can’t get the depth labels to show up on the contours, but yesterday they showed up when on the water. Same thing a couple of weeks ago, so I am starting to think that it may be by design that labels only show up on the water you are fishing. That would be BS because it makes it hard to research a lake ahead of time. Hopefully the update cures it.
