General Manager Jerry Roberts asked Stone to remove the tie five times, saying it might aggravate bear fans and make it more difficult to sell cars.

Sounds like he should pull his head out of his and do what the boss tells ya. Want to wear a Packer tie? Open you own car dealership!!

Some things are more important than a job like a tie that says to the world, “I am a Packer fan”.

Car dealerships do have such a thing as a dress code. I know alot of people think they are having their rights trampled on, because you cannot wear what you want…. you can wear what you want, but not if your gonna work at a car dealership. I suppose if he gets a penny, the next thing will be a Chevy salesman wearing a FORD tie to work, because he can I see this guy losing.

big g hit the nail on the head. the point of a car salesman is to…ahem…sell cars….good luck selling a car to a bear fan when you are wearing a packer tie. the guy wearing the packer tie is obviously a moron.

as a fellow salesguy (not cars) i’m pretty much a fan of whatever team the guy i’m trying to sell to. or at least i’m certainly not a fan of their rivals.

normal conversation : “well i’m not a texas fan but i certainly hate oklahoma” this works well.

A few unanswered questions. Were bear fan sales people aloud to where bear ties? Was he aloud to where the packer tie last week? I would think that there would be alot of Packer fan customers.

Looks like there was no dress code as the manager said it would have been alright to wear the tie on Saturday. And was the dress code, if any, presented to the employee in writing?

I agree the guy should have removed the tie, but I slao agree the manager was a dick for asking him too. really doesn’t matter, the guy was offered a job at another dealership and accepted. I wonder how many of his loyal customers will now go to the new dealership? All good salesman keep a client list and I’m sure the guy will be calling those that he knows are looking for a car.

I’m just wondering that if he’s married, what his wife said to him when he told her he was wearing the wrong tie and got fired??

Poor character all the way around… For those of you who he is a hero too… don’t ever try to live the american dream & open your own business. there are toads out there like this guy, who want to take advantage of you….

IMO, if he isn’t the owner, it doesn’t matter. I like sitting at my computer in my underwear, but I understand if the boss won’t allow it. However if he makes it so I can’t visit IDO…

Would be interesting to see what the official company policy is for dress code if there is even one. The second question would be consistency of the rules, this is what always gets companies, as the courts seem to side with employee’s more often than not…if this went that far.

I would bet that 20 year old chicks with nice hoots would sell lots of cars, but haven’t seen many (actuall any) of them working the lots.

Stupid employee, stupid employer, stupid story.

Atleast he got to talk on espn’s sportcenter, this will end like the girl fired for letting peterson pee after hours, another hire back after bad publicity.

And you just proved your character G

Nothing like reading between the lines and putting your own spin on it.

Sounds like this guy might be happier working for a better person then the ahole he was.

Do you think McDonalds let’s you wear GB ties ??? Why should this car dealer let some a-hole (who knew exactly what he was doing & if you don’t believe it, your naive) hurt his business ??? He was told twice, to remove it.. he didn’t.. oh poor guy…. What kind of “spin” is that ??? Problem is, some society, makes these a-holes out to be heros.. if he wants to be a hero, he should enlist. Yeah, he didn’t want the attention….. and Japan didn’t mean to bomb Pearl Harbor either…. just proves he is an idiot.

I’m with ya on this one G! The guy was told to take off the tie a few different times. I know at 3M if the boss tells you to do something and you don’t do it within reason….Your [censored] is out on the street! Sounds like the manager was well within his right to ask him to take it off.

Yep , whether it was a GB tie, a Harley T Shirt, or even a Bears tie, if the boss tells you it is inappropriate, it is. And if you “choose” to ignore, that’s insubordination. That just makes you out of a job and even dumber…

I bet if the Bears would have won and he wore a Bears tie that wouldn’t have happened. Sounds to me that the Boss Man is a poor sport. By reading some of the posts I don’t think he is the only one.

Not everybody in the world, looks through green tinted glasses either…

His boss openly admits, they do advertisements with the Bears… and I would agree, if the boss says it’s ok, then it is. Pretty simple case of somebody fawning for his 15 minutes….
