    Good Morning,

OK, I have not bought a TV in about 14 years. I am looking hard at the Samsung LN55C630. I mainly watch football and rarely watch movies. Anybody got this TV, any feedback would be appreciated on how it performs.

    Thank you for your time…

Sorry I can’t help you Pal. With all the football threads going as of late, I couldn’t help myself.

I’m sure someone will help you out when they see your post. In the mean time, I’ll go back to my corner.

Samsung or LG are good ones

Do not know your room size but the 46″ to 52″ works well

ck sam’s club they have a the best return policy on HDTV”s

I would also go with the newer LED’s vs the LCD’s

    Good luck on your find

The picture will blow U away if it has been 14 years since your last new TV

Yes, we measured up the room, and a 55 is best overall. I am not sure an LED is worth the extra 200-300, one of my many questions. I am looking long term though, so I am not sure yet.

It will be a change from the old 36 inch tube tv currently in use…

go out to CNet and do some research if you really want to know what the best options are. They have a lot of good information. This link will take you to where you want to start.

Be careful on the size if too big in a smaller room it will drive you nuts because your eyes can`t see the whole screen. Your eyes will be constantly moving around the screen to see whats happening. Our living room is 12 X 24 and a 42 inch works well. I almost went with a 65 inch I am so glad the salesman talked me out of it.

IMHO – on that big of a purchase that you are looking at keeping for many years, 200-300 extra dollars can become pretty insignificant in a hurry. If it is a game changer, I would just wait another couple months until you save the extra couple hundred. Getting what you want will give peace of mind over the next many years instead of always saying “I wish I would have….”

I too, am interested in what guys post here.. I currently have a 35 inch Sony.. but I watched the Packers on a 52 Samsung on Sunday.. and WE NEED TO GET A NEW TV… at least that’s what I decided.. some one else hasn’t decided that as of yet..

I am looking at a plasma because I can get more bang.. meaning size for my buck.. nothing with a lightbulb.. too many Samsungs have taken a dive..

I have an lcd 120hz 1080p and a led 240hz 1080p. GO with the LED. We rarely watch our lcd anymore, because the picture quality is that much better on the led.

The amount of light in the room makes a difference in whether an LCD, LED, or Plasma is your best bet. I haven’t bought a TV in about 4 years since I got my Pioneer plasma, so I can’t remember what works best in what lighting. I would certainly look into that before making a decision on type though.

to be honest i’d stick with panasonic or samsung. these are the 2 leaders. if you can find a stupid deal with one of the second tiered brands, do it but otherwise stick with these 2.

as far as what type. lcd is good, led is better, plasma is the best. as far as plasma, panasonic has anti-glare that virtualy removes the issues. i have an samsung lcd 37 and a panasonic plasma 46. the picture of the panny is superior. i have owned a 42″ vizio and a 40″ lg and both were pretty much junk. and wouldn’t you know it, the vizio was full of LG parts. basically the same television. If you can get a wicked deal for a vizio or lg, go for it, just get the extended warranty.

as for the tv listed. its a good one.

    C-Net is great

We just upgraded at the Bowman house. I spent a lot of time at Best Buy and Ultimate Eletronic’s just looking at different TV’s. I would then come back to my computer and seach C-Net for reviews. After a lot of looking both in the store and online, I purchased a Toshiba 55 LCD-HD. I LOVE this TV, picture is fantastic and with a little help from a good buddy, my surround system sounds awesome, I can shake the neighbors windows with ease Thanks Kooty

    Ultimate Eletronic’s in Minnetonka gets-

Another thing to watch for is the price changing. I got a Samsung 46″ LCD from Amazon last year and in a 2 week span watched the price jump around by more than $200. Went to buy at $999 and they were out. Next day was up to $1149 and varied over 2 weeks when I finally got it at $979. Plus free delivery and no sales tax.

I got a 46in. Sony Bravia LCD in the living room and a 50in. Samsung plasma in the basement and the plasma has a better picture. When we were buying I did some checking and was told that plasma for darker environments and LCD of brighter, LED came out a couple of months after.

I’d take a long look at Plasma TV’s right now. I was all set to spend $2000.00 on a 55″ LED TV. Ended up buying a 50″ plasma for under $800.00. If you ask me the picture on the plasma is better than any LED that I’ve seen. A little thicker and a little heavier but for $1200.00 less I’ll live with it. A 50″ now and I’ll bet I can get the 55″ led in a year or less and end up spending less for both of them than the cost of the LED right now. And in a year from now the LED technology will be even better.

So just a little feedback from a guy that works for a company that installs these things: There are only 2 types of tvs…LCDs or Plasmas. There aren’t any true LED tvs unless you are talking about OLED which are Organic LEDs and are small tvs (30″ and under) and aren’t manufactured yet because they burn out fast and are very expensive ($3k for a 11″ to $30k for a 30″!) The LED tvs you are talking about are LCD tvs with LED back lighting or side lighting. Older LCD (other than LED back light) tvs used a fluorescent tube type for back lighting. Don’t let any commercial or sales person tell you any differently. Samsung was sued in the UK because they said they were LED tvs. Now they have to say LCD/LED tvs in their marketing and boxes. Even LGs claim of of the only “True” LED is false.
If you have controlled lighting in your room where the tv will be then go with a plasma. Plasmas have like little light bulbs (more complex than that but for a quick lesson that little light bulb will do) in them and a higher refresh rate..around 600hz vs LCD tvs with 60-240hz. When the plasmas go to black that little bulb or that section of the screen is turned off. Where as the the LCD tvs filter light and even though there can be local dimming on some tvs there is no way to completely turn off that part of the screen to make a complete dark. So yes…you will get better dark levels in a plasma than an LCD. But with that said you can get some really bad plasmas, too. With tvs…the cheaper the tv the worse the picture. Panasonic has the best plasmas (upper end) out there. Pioneer used to be (and still is if you can find one?)the best but they quit making tvs over a year ago. The best LCD maker out there now is Samsung. I calibrated tvs, also and have seen these tvs to calibrate the best next to a panasonic. Sonys are up there, too. And ALL tvs need to be calibrated. There are no tvs that are calibrated out of the box. They are all pushing Blue and that is a marketing tool the manufacturers use and have been using since the 70s. The human brain perceives blue as brightness and when we walk into a retail store we are drawn to the brightest tvs (like bugs to a light?). These are actually the worst pictures on the tvs. And actually ALL tvs that have ever been produced should have been calibrated because they were all off. Calibration has been more talked about lately only because of HD. You can see more anomalies in an HD picture than the tube or standard def (SD) tvs.
I hope this helps any future tv purchases?

I’m very picky, imho plasma is the only way to go, much better picture dollar for dollar, some of the big buck lcd/led are close, but then youre still lagging behind with hertz, I don’t buy into the 120/240 hertz hype, its still light years behind plasma.

I bought a 50″ Panasonic Viera right before Christmas and am very happy with it. It is a plasma unit. The salesman informed us that if you have small children or pets with a big tail(ie Labs, etc)the screen on an LCD TV can be damaged by being hit. Just push on the screen and you can see what it does. I also believe there is less in a plasma that can go wrong. I don’t know if this was a sales pitch or not but we liked the plasma better than the LCD anyway.
