We should have open season on those fish eating ba*terds
*rolls eyes*January 21, 2011 at 4:17 pm #928798We should probably get rid of all the loons and bald eagles, too
January 21, 2011 at 4:24 pm #928804You would want to limit their numbers too, if you saw the damage they do to small farm ponds. I have a friend with a 6 acre farm pond and it only took cormorant’s a month to clean it out. This was after he spent tons of money to make it a great fishery for family and friends.
January 21, 2011 at 4:33 pm #928806Why can’t we shoot them. Them There numbers are insane, and personally I think they do as much damage to a lake as Snow Geese to to the tundar.
Loons and Eagles don’t flock up by the 100’s on a lake either.

While it would tick me off, I would also realize that there will always be one behind them ready to take their place.igotonePosts: 1746January 21, 2011 at 4:45 pm #928812Quote:

If they’re lined up… might I suggest a higher caliber round?
January 21, 2011 at 4:50 pm #928814im all for a season… Whenever i go duck hunting over open water it seems i see five to one cormorants to ducks day in and day out…

I’m not sure the next bird in line has the same capabilities as a Cormorant. I’m all for a season to assist Mother Nature in thinning the flock.
January 21, 2011 at 4:59 pm #928817Its realy bad mid summer on leech. I know the dnr has tried to limit the population, but when you see them in traders bay by the thousands its a little depressing. From that picture you see what one can eat, now imagine how fast a thousand can clean out a lake! Ive seen a raft of them that has stretched from pine point to stony point, just dont go thru them to fast or you will need a power washer
January 21, 2011 at 4:59 pm #928818Those photos seem to support the theory behind the crash of Leech.
All I know is that mother nature has a way of self-regulating…
Dogs eat rabbits, cats eat birds, wolves eat deer, corm’s eat walleyes, geese poop on my golf course, etc,
pap
January 21, 2011 at 5:00 pm #928819I think a combination of both speed and larger caliber would be required. Maybe something in a short mag.

7MM?
January 21, 2011 at 5:04 pm #928821It sure is a bummer…
anybody know why they congregate on some lake like Leech and you don’t find them on others at all (Mille Lacs)?
January 21, 2011 at 5:06 pm #928823I gotta believe it’s the forage base. Why Leech is “better” to these birds is beyond me. Does Leech offer more shallow areas? Never fished it.

Habitat. They require an island with trees and the absence of human activity for nesting. If they nest in trees on the mainland they suffer heavy predation from fox, cats, racoons and coyotes. There’s not much ground meeting those requirements on Mille Lacs. Apparently there’s more on Leech although I’ve never seen where they nest so it is only an assumption.

I think this would work well. The Auto Assault-12 (AA-12) is an automatic 12-gauge shotgun that can fire 300 rounds per minute and is recoilless!!! Bad Azz Gun
That thing is terrifying.
