I have read some of yalls older post on this and am still not quite clear. I recently purchased a used 24 volt riptide 74 lb thrust, tiller handle bow mount. Previous owner had a “foot switch” spliced in and apparently had bad connection and wasnt working. I removed footswitch and wrapping to find motor had 4 wires, 2 red 2 black. I have my 2 batts jumped pos-neg. do i hook both red wires to pos of jumped bat and 2 blacks to ground of other? the previous owner had both reds hooked(twisted) together going to 1 wire and both blacks (twisted) going to 1 wire. I dont want to take a chance on burning something up, especially trolling motor so any help greatly appreciated. will probally just not use foot switch…for now anyway…thanks a mill ! bob

If your batteries are wired as you say, you should be set for a 24 volt system, connect your red wires (both) to the positive post and both black wires to your negitive post and you should be good to go. This is of course if you are correct with it being a 24 volt motor set up!! Hope this helps!!

Just like Grey Ghost said, if your batteries are wierd as you mentioned then you are set up 24V. If you want to be certain, get a volt meter/tester and see what your output is! Good luck!

the motor says 24 volt, not 12/24 on side. are you saying its ok to hook both reds to same pos+ post then both blacks to neg- post on other battery is good to go? i did google. thats how i found this place, found some good diagrams but not for a 4 wire 24 volt system. i think what yall are saying is what the previous owner did, seeing he had the 2 blks but jointed to one wire as well as both reds done likewise. thx again for the help ! have a great week !

What everyone else said if batteries are already hooked for 24 volt 1 positive to one negative then yes red to + black to -. Some boats are wired four wire my Crestliner 182 TS runs four wire for trolling motor from the batteries..
