I am looking at a 2000 alumacraft 165cs with a 75 evinrude ficht on it that tops out at 33mph, the prop is a 13 3/4×15, does the speed seem slow. is the ficht a good motor?

    Thanks, Rogan

My 02′ Alumacraft 165 MAG with 93′ 60 HP Yammi 2-stroke Tiller tops out at 30mph on GPS. That is BEST case scenarios flat calm and one person. I do not know the prop. -Mark

I know there was a time period where the ficht motors had issues, but I don’t remember what years were the questionable ones. I would check into that before pulling the trigger.

Sounds a little slow to me. #5 to 40 seems more reasonable. My 1750 navigator with 75 yamaha run low to mid 30s depending on conditions. My prop has seen better days to.

Sound a little slow to me to unless you have some extra weight. I would think you should top out around 36 mph.

Thanks to the IDO members for the advice, these ficht motors in the late 90,s and early 2000,s did have trouble according to a couple of dealers i talked to, i am going to steer clear.

    Thanks, Rogan

The speed seems a little slow but not bad. There are many factors that play into speed though; gps or boat speedo, is it the correct prop, was the motor trimmed up properly while at full throtle and so on.

I would really really check into that motor though. If you dont do anything else, at least bring it into a shop and have them compression test it and give it a good once over.

If the motor checks out and its a good deal I would pull the trigger!!

Well I am an Evenrude /Johnson man.. and was for many years until I got my Yammy.. that being said, you don’t want to get ficht.. it’s the motor that brought down the company..

That motor is heavy. What rpm levels is it running? If you wish to look further into purchasing it, please have the dealer run an engine report and look up any warranty issues on the Dealer Evinrude site. We didn’t have any trouble with the FICHT motors we sold, but they had to be set up correctly.
