Going for a tune up at Mayo tomorrow — want to go out for a nice lunch after with my wife…any suggestions other than a chain restaurant?
Thanks!
What are you looking for? Anything specific? I’ve got a number of suggestions. Walking distance from Mayo or drive?
Victoria’s is a nice Italian Restaurant. Good lunch menu and good food.
City Cafe has more upper end stuff, not sure if they are open for lunch, but depending on how long appointments go, may be worth it.
Newt’s is a great burger joint and has some of the best burgers in town.
All of these are within walking distance of the main downtown area and most of the Clinic Buildings.

Been a few years since I was a Rochesterite, but Newt’s is good
Me personally, I really dislike Victoria’s. Over priced flavorless pasta IMO.
Macs is a small cafe atmosphere and the Gyros are excellent. Dos Amigos is awesome Mexican food.
Newt’s has excellent burgers. Not a typical burger either, unique creations.
These are all within walking distance.
HuHot is one of my favorites in town. I spend way to much time there.
John Hardy’s BBQ is excellent as well. Pork platter with JoJo’s.
if you want to try something really different, try Jim or Kens(?) Hardy’s BBQ on south broadway..
this is Carolina BBQ and totally different then say a Famous Daves..
very good food.
if you want cheap, Try the HI VEE store at the Hy 14 west or North exit.. where 14 is heading west out of town.. you are going to go to the east exit.. First exit past Miricle Mile.. ( I hope this makes sense) unbelievable food for a very low price..
You’ve got some great suggestions here!
Newts is great for burgers but keep an open mind – their specialty creations are really good.
John Hardy’s BBQ is always a favorite place for my kids – nothing special on the atmosphere but the food is great.
Victoria’s used to have a place in Winona (long gone now) and I thought the lunch menu was pretty good but have not been to the Roch. location in many years.
Good luck with lunch and the tune up.
Dave

I forgot about that place. Yum!
Newts would be the place if you’re wanting to stay near the clinic/downtown ( ) unless your tune-up his heart related then you might want to stay away…
Micheals is a nice upscale restaurant. Two blocks east of the Gonda building on center street (center street runs east and west between the Gonda and the Eisenberg building) and Broadway. It can be reached through the skyway system also.
If you’ve got the wife with, go to Chester’s in the Galleria. It’s newer than the others mention and a whole lot better, in my opinion. The only problem is that it will probably be busy!
Just go to Michaels. Walking distance from the clinic,(valet parking if you will be driving) great lunch specials, and they havn’t been around for over fifty years for nothing!
Try some Middle Eastern Indian food at the India Garden.
Great buffet and priced around $10.00
I thinks it’s on 7th and Broadway across from the McDonalds

Not to mention, a certain IDO’r also happens to work there

If you like Bbq or smoked meats go John Hardys Bbq.
X2 not the classiest place but its like heaven on a plate!
I’ll second Chester’s on the upscale side. Walleye cakes are awesome and the buffalo shrimp isn’t too bad either. Check out their web site for a full menu.
Strong votes for City Cafe and Newt’s too.
Wild card goes to Jenpachi. Not the most upscale, but a fun show at the grill and the owner does an awesome rendition of “Happy Birthday”.

I love that place!! That’s some goooooooood chewin’ there!
John Hardys all the way if you like bbq. But if you want to stay down town Chesters is my favorite, good luck

Extra Spicy is great, but it’s not for everyone. I usually get medium and Nicole get’s mild.
Extra spicy is pretty hot. And this is coming from a guy who loves spicy/hot foods.
Gotta throw in Billoti’s Italian Village if pizza or Italian food is what your looking for. Otherwise, Pappageorge’s is a great place for lunch. It is just a little less upscale than Michaels but is still a classy place to dine with great food. Of course if you are looking for upscale dining, Michaels is hard to beat. All are within walking distance of the clinic.

I’ll second that. It’s so good we stop if we’re any place near it. When we were kids dad would take the big cooler with on work trips that way and fill it up and bring it home so we could have it all week.
I want to thank everyone for the suggestions. I went to Newts and it was awesome. I am going to have to spend a week down there for some treatment; at least my wife will have a list of places to try….My last meal before treatment will be the BBQ place suggested…You guys rock

GMAN and I use to work with a bunch of guys that transferred with there jobs from Texas to Rochester and all of these guys loved hot and spicy foods, quite often we would order from John Hardies. I am not a Extra spicy guy just can not take it, mild is just fine with me. The Texas boys on the other hand they did not even break a sweat with the Extra spicy sauce they liked there sauce hot, the hotter the better, they claimed that the Extra spicy at John Hardies was like the medium sauce back in Texas.
Thanks for the information, I will be down in Rochester for a girls basketball tournament in a few weeks, always on the lookout for a nice place to eat…
