Did anyone catch the Lindner Angling Edge show yesterday? Al catching walleyes in the middle of summer with Rapala Jigging Raps. Basically casting and snap jigging in area lakes.

I actually tried to do this once, so was happy to see some confirmation of my “outside the box” thinking… I was however working those icefishing lures, including spoons under clouds of ciscoes trying to stay vertical… I also worked an offshore hump in the same manner. When I wasn’t able to connect, I tried a fuzzy duzzit (large sonar type lure meant for musky) and managed to catch a 36″ musky that was hanging out. Haven’t tried since that day, but certainly have it stored in the memory banks!!!

I tuned in just at the end. Sounds like something I might be interested in learning more about.

vertical jiggin ice fishing spoons in the summer is deadly for jumbo perch on mille lacs. Hovering above the structure and dropping down a lightning spoon or go devil has yielded lots of jumbos, with an occasional pike and walleye. That show may have even been filmed on Mille Lacs.

I’ve been doing it for a few years now on Winnie and Leech
works better if you cut off the front hook
it tends to pick up a lot of bottom junk
    I use #7-#9 the most
    work well

It works really well on Canadian Shield Fish….

There was also a CA Bass article about chasing deep LM Bass using the same baits. There are some modifications and tricks that make them even more deadly.

Shocking that this has not come out, sooner.

I’ve haven’t thought of jigging raps, interesting.

For years I’ve tried using spoons for walleyes before. Some bodies of water it works great, and other’s I haven’t had any success. I’ve caught everything but a walleye on one particular lake…perch, crappies, sunfish, bass and northerns.

I think the CJS Slender Spoon would be a great tactic. Cast and retrieve slowly while popping it.

I have been using Blades for three years now in the same situations out on Little Bay de Noc with excellent results and I’ll bet, with a modification of triple grip trebles… They will outfish the Raps…

I need to send a couple to Al…

In-Fisherman did an article a number of years ago about casting and snap-jigging ice spoons for walleyes in rivers – particularly pimples. I did it long enough to lose one, then gave it up.

Switch the treble to a single hook….

I heard of a guy who was “killin’em” on a Do-Jigger this fall, cast and snapjigged….A little steel wool on my tarnished ones, replace the hooks, and I think i’ll try it this year.

I have occasionally used jigging raps on deep humps for walleyes during the summer but gave up after a bite-off. I caught fish prior to that but it’s $6 bait. There’s many economical baits that work just fine, and I won’t get bummed if I lose’em.

Besides, the best jiggin’ raps are no longer made. I’ll save’em for ice.

    Walleyes…but Smallies smack em too!
    1/4 blades in spring… 3/8 or 1/2oz in the Summer/Fall
I use lots of different styles… Deans, BFTs, and my own (Guide’s Choice). Best colors have been gold, silver, purple and firetiger.
