    Poll time!

Please answer from the info you know at the time you are taking this poll.

I don’t want to post it yet Ryan. It may skew this unscientific poll. By posting it here, it’s too easy for people to look first and vote afterward.

I have to say I’m surprised of how many know about it.

I asked 5 people, including one well known walleye guide and they hadn’t heard of it.

I had to answer no to Do you buy a MN license.

I am a Disabled Veteran. My FL and HL is a no cost license, so hence I did not “pay” for it.

Just so their idea of getting people to “know” about the stamp, is not requiring it.. which was sung from the highest mountains when they were polling to implement a “strictly volunteering” stamp..for stocking above and beyond

I didn’t buy one because at the time I had no idea where those funds go. So another option on question 2 would be “don’t know where the funds go.”

I just hope this doesnt become mandatory, I no longer fish trout because the stamps are required, but this is minnnesota, we will be required to have a walleye stamp, a northern stamp a bass stamp, a perch stamp a eel pout stamp etc, etc,.

    Well thanks G.

Last year was the first I heard of the Voluntary Walleye Stamp.

$25,000. is to go to advertising and the rest directly to stocking walleyes above and beyond what the DNR normally stocks.

Last year just over $11,000. went to above and beyond.

The first year the men in charge sent out post cards to people that bought fishing licenses letting them know about the stamp. As expected sales were horrible.

This last year Al Linder’s Angling Edge was promoting it.

When I bought my license on line, I don’t recall seeing it. When a person buys a license at a retailer, they were to be asked if they wanted to donate to the stocking of more walleyes in MN.

I sent some emails the to fella in charge about how to get the word out better than…well expensive post cards. One of my suggestions was the MN Conservation Volunteer. Since the DNR publishes it, there would have been Zero cost.

The not I received back was “thanks for your unsolicited suggestions”.

I was kinda getting the feeling they really don’t want to sell these…I mean like Ryan, I don’t fish for walleyes that often, but because I know this money is going directly to eye stocking I would buy one.

Do you buy it the same way you get your fishing liscence? Kind of weird no body has ever asked me if I wanted to buy it when I got my liscence. I would have if I knew about it.

The change they made this last year in the els system was that a screen came up telling the clerk to ask if you wanted a voluntary walleye stamp.

It’s been my experience that (mostly) these screens are by passed by the clerk to move on to the next customer. Sounds like that’s happened in a number of cases here already.

The only true, sure fire way to promote the stamp is to make the customer aware of the stamp and what the money is used for. If a customer asks for the stamp the clerk isn’t going to say no.

I mentioned earlier that I asked 5 fishermen if they heard of the stamp and none of them had. Once I explained what it was for, all five said they were going to buy one.

I wish I would have been there when they came up with the postcard idea.

I was at least asked at the bait shop where I got my license. The kid didn’t know where the funds went either.

when this state’s DNR actually starts making improvements in my hunting and fishing in this state, then i will think about donating additional money.

they do not manage their current budget as it is, plus we have the DF tax increase, and people actually want us to “donate” more money to the DNR?

is this a Monday Morning Funny?

I’ve experienced some of the best fishing of my life over the last 2 years. Hunting, now that’s another story.
